SSM Health-Dean Medical Group, a 500-physician multi-specialty group, is actively recruiting an experienced Physician Assistant, Cardiothoracic Surgery to work in our well-established Cardiothoracic Surgery Department. The department currently consists of 3 physicians and 6 APs. Physician Assistant must have post educational experience as a practicing PA in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital's robotic surgery capabilities are unmatched in the region, positioning us as one of only a handful of centers nationwide with the ability to offer robotic cardiac as well as thoracic surgery. We perform the whole gamut of adult cardiac and thoracic surgery including CABG, Valve surgery, Aortic aneurysms and dissections, pulmonary resections and decortications. We do not perform ventricular assist devices.
As the ideal candidate, you would have surgical first assist experience and a strong attraction to the operating room. Must be able to function and thrive within a high-functioning team. The new providers responsibilities will include assisting in the operating room (including endoscopic and open vein and radial artery harvesting); patient care on the Cardiothoracic Surgery in-patient unit; night call on weeknights and weekends (anticipated 1 in 6 for each) for floor patients and for the operating room; and rare outpatient clinic care. For weekends, rounds and then call from home for OR. There are full time intensivists for patient care. The floor patients are managed by physician assistants and call is from home over the phone.

Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and gathering/documenting/updating pertinent health information (i.e., chief complaint, allergies, and/or medications). Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide direct patient care under general supervision of licensed personnel, maintaining and operating specialized equipment, and performing any other duties deemed necessary to insure optimal patient care and physician service. Medical experience required. On-the-job training provided. This position requires 10-hour shifts on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and every other Thursday. Experience as being an assistant Rad Tech or interest in being trained to be an assistant Rad Tech is preferred.
* Assists provider in seeing patients; gathers and records vital signs and medical histories, prepares patients for examination, draws blood, initiates toxicology screens, and administers medications as directed.
* Records information in electronic medical records (EHR) database or paper chart and gathers all essential components from demographic sheets/consents/credit policies/charge slips, updates medication, and history.
* Completes necessary paperwork as ordered by provider including printing prescriptions, work restrictions, referrals, and scheduling diagnostic testing.
* Participates in the correct scheduling of patients, appropriate communication with the scheduling department.
* Obtains and documents vitals and data regarding modified Aldrete and discharge readiness scores. Assists in discharge of patient with appropriate paperwork.
* Assists in the performance of chart review on daily basis to ensure completeness and accuracy of patient documentation.
* Assists in keeping ASC orderly and follows appropriate cleaning protocols.
* Acts as scribe for provider recording patient information as dictated, when requested.
* Helps support Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement initiatives as a part of the team.
* Facilitates communication to physician and health care provider regarding questions about treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physicians' instructions to patients.
* Always participates and maintains safety and dignity of patient.
* In addition, have demonstrated competency and routinely perform duties in at least one of the following:
* Surgical: Applies and monitors principles of aseptic technique throughout intra-operative period. Assists provider by having all necessary equipment available and ready. Efficiently "turns over" rooms between patients following proper cleaning technique. Communicates all breaches of aseptic technique immediately to the provider and circulating nurse.
* Effectively communicates with health care providers regarding patient questions and needs. Documents accurately in EHR, creates encounters as needed, properly updates, and utilizes medication module. Tasks and communicates with providers regarding triage needs.
Qualifications
* High School diploma or equivalent. Certified Medical Assistant certification prefered but will train the right candidate for this role..
* Related experience preferred.
* Strong organizational, judgment, communication, and analytical skills; sometimes under pressure.
* Ability to multi-task and perform multiple priorities.
* Cooperative and professional behavior toward patients, peers, providers, organizational leadership, and visitors.
* Ability to promote favorable facility image with patients, providers, insurance companies and general public.
* Ability to work independently, make decisions, and problem solve.
* Evidence of leadership qualities. Frequently contributing to the improvement of the department and participate in committee participation, task force, etc.
* Ability to contribute to a team environment and to provide excellent customer service.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Experience as being an assistant Rad Tech or interest in being trained to be an assistant Rad Tech is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
* Current certification as Medical Assistant from an accredited certification agency preferred but willing to traing candidate with medical experience..
* BLS certified or obtain certification within three months of hire

Description
The Medical Scribe reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
* Observes and accurately enters details and decisions from practitioner-patient encounters directly into the (EHR) electronic health record on behalf of the Provider.
Responsibilities:
Is present during clinical services and accurately documents information, conversations and activity into the EHR in real time, under the direct supervision of the Provider.
* Identifies/Introduces self and role of Scribe to patient and/or family.
* Accompanies provider during patient interviews and examinations.
* Records pertinent positive and negative findings in patient history and physical examination including history of present illness, past medical/surgical history, social history, review of systems, medications, allergies and family history.
* Records procedures, Provider review of lab tests, Provider review and impression of diagnostic images and/or review of official radiologist interpretations.
* May record time of patient care activities including Provider-to-Provider communication, family communication and re-examination of the patient.
* Assists with preparation of paperwork for disposition of patients from clinic setting.
* Helps increase Provider productivity and workflow by performing a variety of non-clinical tasks including:
* Assisting the Provider(s) in navigating the EHR.
* Researching information requested by the Provider.
* May locate information for review (i.e., previous notes, reports, test results, and laboratory results).
* Complies with all NMHC policies, including those relating to confidentiality of patient information, and all local, State and Federal guidelines for documentation, confidentiality and privacy (HIPAA).
* Ensures documentation in the EMR includes a statement that "Document has been prepared at the direction and in conjunction with Provider" along with the along with the Scribe's name and title, and that the Provider has included an attestation regarding the accuracy of the note.
* Generates and prints patient plan with scribe name on bottom.
* Scribes are prohibited from participating in any clinical care (must refer all requests related to patient care to the responsible Physician or Nursing staff), interjecting own feelings, observations or impressions into the documentation, dictating reports, entering/writing prescriptions, using Provider's log-in or passwords, or performing hospital duties.
* All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
* High School Diploma or equivalent.
* Proficient in medical terminology and basic coding knowledge.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; Ability to communicate and interact professionally with others.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Ability to actively listen and observe.
* Keyboard proficiency and the ability to operate a personal computer and related software applications.
* Ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic, highly-stressful environment that routinely involves exposure to highly-sensitive personal medical issues.

Position Purpose
Responsible for patient care under the direction of a provider. Duties include but are not limited to patient intake, procedure set-up, phlebotomy, and other administrative duties.
Role and Responsibilities
Rooms patient and verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.
Collects and processes blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimen for laboratory testing in compliance with CLIA standards.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, or providers' instructions to patients.
Clean and sterilize medical instruments.
Documents patient visit and records patient/lab charges for billing department.
Contacts patients with lab and path results.
Assists providers as they examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections, removing sutures, or phlebotomy.
Cleans examination rooms and other work areas and stocks inventory as needed.
Trains new employees as needed.
Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
