The Urgent Care MA will interact with other departments, clinic personnel, and outside providers in a professional and friendly manner, to create and maintain a positive relationship with our internal and external customers. Appropriate telephone etiquette. Knowledge of basic clinical skills within the scope of practice. Rooming-in patient in the examination room and reports to LVN, RN or provider patients that need immediate care. Obtain and document all pertinent patient information. Anticipate, assist and perform procedures ordered by the provider. Competence on procedures/services offered in BFMC Urgent Care: - Ankle-Brachial Index - Specimen collection - blood draw, urinalysis, culture swabs, etc. - Wound care and dressing changes for uncomplicated wounds - Ear lavage and eye irrigation - Electrocardiogram - Enema - TB skin testing - Visual acuity test - Waived test kits and in-house laboratory tests - Basic orthopedic splinting and application of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Maintain patient safety, privacy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA. Compliance with infection control and proper waste management Reinforce and support patient education programs. Maintain patient flow and room availability. Stock and maintain examination rooms and nursing stations. Document in patient electronic medical record and ensure that all encounters have been completed properly. Maintain all equipment used for patient care and testing. Assist with training and orientation of new personnel. Identify problems, provide solutions and evaluate results as needed. Must provide current proof of licensure and BLS certification. Monitor logs (quality control, temperature, autoclave, etc.). Ensure proper handling, administration and documentation of all medications as ordered by the provider. Ensure that the recent results of any tests are retrieved and ready for provider's review. Responsible for disinfecting and sterilizing surgical instruments using the autoclave machine and preparing packs for surgical procedures. Initiate/participate in Code White, Code Blue, Code Red and Code 7 situations as they arise within the guidelines of scope of practice. Be familiar with contents of Policy and Procedure book and MSDS. Other duties as assigned.
