As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for obtaining quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups. Methods may include venous, capillary, arterial, and line collections. Not all locations use all methods. You will provide rapid response to medical emergencies such as traumas and codes.
Working as a Phlebotomist at Mayo Clinic, you will be working both independently and as a team, actively partnering with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment, and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. You will interact with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. A variety of computer programs and systems will be used throughout your daily routine. Additional responsibilities of this role include accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling, and transportation, answering phones, assisting with the training of students and new employees..
*Individuals hired to this position are required to complete 2 years in this position before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic.

License or Certification
To qualify for Phlebotomist II, the applicant must possess a valid phlebotomy certification from an approved laboratory certification agency, such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Health Career Association (NHA), or the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT).
Certificates from a technical college where the course was taken are not sufficient. The Phlebotomist must have sat for a certification exam from an agency such as those listed above or must possess one of the following valid certifications: Medical Assistant (MA) certification from an approved agency such as the American Medical Association (AMA), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Technologist (MT) certification.

* Coordinate with pathology and laboratory staff to ensure they have adequate supplies.

You will be helping our patients live well by:
Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and gathering/documenting/updating pertinent health information (i.e., chief complaint, allergies, and/or medications). Monitors and completes Clinical Integration/ Quality Improvement measures with notification to clinician for opportunities within their scope.
Performs laboratory procedures (i.e., strep test, wound culture, specimen collection, etc.) using principles of aseptic technique and standard precautions/infection control guidelines.
Assists the Physician/ Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) with procedures such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
Administers routine medications, under Physician/ APC orders or medical group approved standing orders/protocols, which may include but are not limited to immunizations, antibiotics, vitamins, and topical agents.
Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, pre-approved care algorithms, new appointment times and referrals to other facilities or services. Refers questions to Registered Nurses and Physician/APC per scope of practice guidelines and relays information back to patient as directed.
Communicates with Physician/APC and other members of the health care team to ensure smooth clinic flow and adjusts as necessary. Effectively communicates accurate and timely information with the patient.
May perform basic and advanced clinical support tasks or skills based on the specialty and appropriate competencies such as but not limited to removal of sutures and staples, laboratory procedures (throat/nose culture, drug screen), phlebotomy - butterfly, venous heel stick, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, prescription refills using approved protocols, etc., under clinical supervision.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. IV Technician Status: Part-Time, Full-Time
As an IV Technician, you will play a vital role in administering intravenous vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients directly to our clients, helping them optimize their health and wellness. Key Responsibilities:
IV Administration: Start and monitor IV therapy, ensuring safe and effective fluid administration.
Client Monitoring: Assess client's physical health, including vital signs, and monitor their response to treatment.
Infection Management: Prevent and manage infections associated with IV therapy.
Assessment: Conduct physical assessments, including evaluating mental status, and identify any contraindications to IV therapy.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of client interactions, therapy services, assessments, and treatment responses.
Client Communication: Effectively communicate with clients about their therapy, ensuring they understand the process and feel comfortable throughout their treatment.
Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Credentialed as a Paramedic, RN, AEMT, or LPN.
Required Knowledge:
Strong understanding of anatomy, medical terminology, and medical practice functions.
Expertise in venous access with the ability to access peripheral veins.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in vascular access or IV infusion, with strong venous access skills.
Skills:
Excellent intravenous catheter placement
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Attention to detail and ability to multitask
Customer service-oriented with a focus on patient confidentiality
Self-motivated and able to manage time effectively
Problem-solving abilities and independent judgment
