Essential functions include scheduling research visits for subjects enrolled in clinical trials, the performance of EKG, routine phlebotomy, other lab assessments such as vital signs, and obtaining necessary lab results for the subjects. The research assistant will also be responsible for assisting the study coordinator in reviewing and requesting medical records. Must have experience with PC software applications including word processing. The ability and willingness to learn new software programs is also required. QUALIFICATIONS Medical assistant / Phlebotomist with at least one to two years of clinical experience (certification preferred) or a laboratory technician with at least one to two years of clinical experience. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus. Physical agility must be such that the MA is able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time. This position has direct patient contact and calls for the ability to assist frail patients in rising, walking, sitting, and lying down, etc., frequently throughout the course of the shift. The MA should be able to lift up to 25 pounds repeatedly and 65 pounds intermittently. Due to the fact that the work is categorized by OSHA as Bloodborne Pathogen Category I, there is potential exposure to blood, body fluid/tissue, and infectious wastes.     Under the direction of the Clinic Supervisor, this position is responsible for patient care in the clinic or ambulatory care setting, along with scheduling of appointments (if appropriate),managing tasks for providers, submission of referrals, and back-up reception, as needed. Medical Assistant/Ward Clerk perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep clinic operations running smoothly, such as the ability to access, understand, and process tasks and duties in the electronic medical records system. The Medical Assistant Ward Clerk must have HEDIS and I-Star knowledge and participation, and act under the supervision of the Clinic Supervisor. The Medical Assistant Ward Clerk must maintain adherence to policies, procedures and regulations of the Company and participate in an interdisciplinary and inter-facility approach to achieving the mission, philosophy, and goals of the Company. The Medical Assistant Ward Clerk will interact with other departments, clinic personnel, and outside providers in a professional and friendly manner, to create and maintain a positive relationship with our internal and external customers. 1.1 Greet patients courteously, eye contact, smile. 1.2 Exhibit proper telephone etiquette. 1.3 Receive and process incoming call Able to handle multi-line telephones. 1.4 Schedule appointments in accordance with physician and/or department guidelines. 1.5 Update patient information in NextGen. 1.6 Be familiar with insurance contracts and unacceptable insurances, along with insurance benefits. 1.7 Schedule referral appointments according to protocol. 1.8 Ensure proper handling, administration, and documentation of all medication and vaccines as ordered by the provider. 1.9 Anticipate, assist, and perform procedures ordered by the provider. 1.10 Performs sterile technique setup and maintaining sterile field when necessary. 1.11 Competent in procedures/services offered in the Company Clinics: Vital signs including orthostatic VS Ankle-Brachial Index Specimen collection- blood draw, urinalysis, culture swabs, etc. Basic wound care and dressing changes. Ear Lavage Eye Irrigation Electrocardiogram TB Skin Testing Visual Acuity Test Waived test kits (rapid strep test, urinalysis, etc.) Application of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Pulmonary Function test Audiogram Overnight pulse oximeter monitoring 1.12 Responsible for following the Standard/Universal Precautions by hand washing, using PPE, basic knowledge infection control and medical waste management for clinic setting. 1.13 Responsible to "room" patients, do the intake notes, including vital signs and complete NextGen MA Workflow. 1.14 Responsible for managing the "tasks" that includes clearing tasks inbox daily, sending and receiving tasks. 1.15 Work as back-up reception. 1.16 Maintain and manage NextMD message retrieval and responses. 1.17 Handle complaints in a responsible and professional manner. 1.18 Maintain a clean work area. 1.19 Assist with submission of referrals for the providers as appropriate, utilizing online process when applicable. 1.20 Able to create and send tasks through EHR. 1.21 Take messages and answer them in a timely matter through EHR. 1.22 Stay current on NextGen and EZCAP updates. 1.23 Assist in flowing back-office patients with any clerical needs or follow up instructions. 1.24 Process all incoming correspondence ensuring the following are completed prior to giving the provider: must have patient's chart number, last visit, next visit date, refill requests, reports, results, paperwork, utilizing online process when applicable. 1.25 Understand the referral process and how to advise patients. 1.26 Knowledge of patient forms: OMV, physical, handicap placard, disability, etc. 1.27 Will act as the provider liaison for patients, will answer calls and do all you can to work with the provider to obtain an answer solution to their question. 1.28 Obtain approved prescriptions for the administration in the department. 1.29 Responsible for data entry and management of vaccinations on the CAIR website. 1.30 Administer medication as prescribed within scope of practice. 1.31 Initiate/participate in Code White, Code Blue, and Code Red situations as they arise within scope of practice. 1.32 Responsible for performing " nurse only" visits with appropriate documentation. Providers Signature Task provider for completion 1.33 Responsible for updating health maintenance on all preventative reports: Dexa Scan Eye Exam Mammogram Pap Smear Colonoscopy, etc. 1.34 Responsible to ensure all hospital notes have been retrieved prior to appointment for provider review on all EHR and HD's. 1.35 Responsible le for activating the Chain of Command if there are abnormal vital signs which is to report to MD/provider immediately. 1.36 Access EZ CAP to verify referrals and update appointments. 1.37 Responsible for working with Pharmacist at Physicians Plaza Pharmacy for ensuring prescriptions are correct and medications are ordered. 1.38 Responsible for working with referring providers to ensure prescriptions for patient medical administering are complete. 1.39 Other duties assigned by the supervisor.
