Position Summary
We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our dedicated team in delivering high-quality, compassionate care. Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Collect patient information, vital signs (BP, TPR, height/weight), and age-specific measurements
Assist with medical procedures and administer treatments such as nebulizers, oxygen therapy, wound care, EKGs, and more
Prepare and administer immunizations and injections (as delegated)
Support laboratory functions: specimen collection, preparation, and packaging
Perform routine x-ray and lab procedures under provider supervision
Sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated materials according to protocol
Clerical Duties
Document check-in procedures and manage patient medical records
Gather and file diagnostic reports for provider review
Complete non-medical portions of patient forms and requisitions
Assist with appointment scheduling, referrals, and distribution of test results
Maintain daily workflow with efficiency and confidentiality
Unit Maintenance
Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and equipment
Clean and restock examination and treatment areas
Ensure readiness of exam rooms and patient care environments
Quality Assurance
Participate in staff and committee meetings
Engage in quality improvement activities, including closing care gaps (e.g., A1C, immunizations)
Follow infection-control protocols and safety guidelines

Small Animal Internal Medicine is one of many specialties in Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital including anesthesiology, avian and exotic medicine, cardiology, clinical pathology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, medical, surgical, and radiation oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, sports medicine, and theriogenology.
Small animal medicine equipment includes a brand new portable endoscopy system from GSM Capital Animal Health which includes a slim endoscope, a super slim endoscope, a standard gastroscope, and a rigid rhinoscope. This complements our previous Fuji bronchoscope, gastroscope, and colonoscope and our Storz ureteroscope and rigid rhinoscope. The service also has a Vcheck V200 Bionote analyzer, an Echo Rebel iPad based digital microscope, and an HM70EVO Samsung ultrasound machine for within service use. Small animal medicine is also supported by a full service in-house volunteer blood bank. Other onsite hospital equipment includes Co2 surgical laser (Aesculight), Eklin digital radiology, a state-of-the art Varian Edge Linear Accelerator, 3T PhillipsMRI , GE 128-slice CT scan, a Siemens digital RF suite, and GE interventional radiology suite. The Small Animal Internal Medicine service at Auburn University has a highly successful resident training program with a robust caseload of approximately 5,000SAIM cases and 30,000 small animal cases seen annually in the Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital, which opened in 2014. The intermediate care ward can house up to 36 inpatients, the intensive care unit up to 18 inpatients, and the hospital has separate isolation units and separate receiving for infectious patients. The Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital also provides direct consultation for and transfer of care from Auburn Veterinary Specialists-Gulf Shores, a satellite of the Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital. The Bailey hospital has a robust diagnostic imaging service and imaging support includes after-hours ultrasound and cross-sectional imaging. A licensed centralized pharmacy with five full-time very helpful pharmacists and one pharmacist board certified by the International College of Veterinary Pharmacy (DICVP ) supports patient medication needs. The hospital is further supported by a clinical laboratory staffed full-time with clinical pathologists. An after-hours STAT lab is available for hematology (Heska and Idexx), chemistries (Idexx), blood gases and electrolytes (Nova Prime+VET), thromboelastography (traditional and EntegrionVCM VET ), and Abaxis coagulation profiles.ICU /IMC monitoring capabilities include telemetry (Fukuda DS1800), pulse oximetry, end-tidal CO2, direct and indirect blood pressure, and point-of-care ultrasounds (4 Clarius C7s, 2 Sonosite SIIs, Samsung HM70AEVO ). Position Summary
We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our dedicated team in delivering high-quality, compassionate care. The CMA plays a critical role in enhancing the efficiency of care delivery and ensuring our patients receive the best possible experience. This position involves both clinical and administrative duties, supporting providers and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
* Collect patient information, vital signs (BP, TPR, height/weight), and age-specific measurements
* Assist with medical procedures and administer treatments such as nebulizers, oxygen therapy, wound care, EKGs, and more
* Prepare and administer immunizations and injections (as delegated)
* Support laboratory functions: specimen collection, preparation, and packaging
* Perform routine x-ray and lab procedures under provider supervision
* Sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated materials according to protocol
Clerical Duties
* Document check-in procedures and manage patient medical records
* Gather and file diagnostic reports for provider review
* Complete non-medical portions of patient forms and requisitions
* Assist with appointment scheduling, referrals, and distribution of test results
* Maintain daily workflow with efficiency and confidentiality
Unit Maintenance
* Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and equipment
* Clean and restock examination and treatment areas
* Ensure readiness of exam rooms and patient care environments
Quality Assurance
* Participate in staff and committee meetings
* Engage in quality improvement activities, including closing care gaps (e.g., A1C, immunizations)
* Follow infection-control protocols and safety guidelines

* Saturday: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Requirements
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
* Current CMA certification (Georgia or nationally recognized)
* Minimum 6 months of CMA experience preferred
* Strong interpersonal and emergency response skills
* Professionalism, integrity, and the ability to maintain patient confidentiality
Physical Requirements
* Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs
* Full range of motion, including the ability to assist or lift patients
* Normal vision, hearing, and hand-eye coordination
* Tolerance for stressful or irregular work conditions
Work Environment

What you'll do
* Clinical Care: Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, perform venipuncture and CLIA-waived point-of-care testing (COVID, flu, strep, glucose, A1C, UA, etc.), assist with minor procedures, wound care, EKGs, and nebulizer therapy.
* Insurance Verification & Front Desk: Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile payment logs, and maintain EMR accuracy.
* Patient Service: Educate patients on both clinical procedures and financial expectations, provide clear discharge instructions, and de-escalate concerns with empathy and professionalism.
* Team & Compliance: Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs (crash cart, fridge temps, etc.), support infection-control and HIPAA standards.
What We're Looking For
* Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
* Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire.
* At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration required.
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or ability to obtain before starting).
* Urgent care or emergency room experience highly valued.
* EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (e.g., Waystar).
* Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.
Additional requirements
* Must successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check as a condition of employment.
* Full availability including ability to work evenings/weekends and float to nearby centers as needed.

Work environment
Fast-paced urgent care with frequent role-switching; prolonged standing/walking; routine exposure to blood and body fluids (strict PPE adherence); occasional lifting up to 25-30 lbs; weekend/evening shifts and float coverage as needed.
