Overview

Education
HS Diploma
Qualifications:
Minimum of one year experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Phlebotomy experience preferred Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred. BLS required within 90 days of hire.
Certification must be received within (9) nine months of employment in one of the following certification programs:
CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant or
CMA- Certified Medical Assistant or
RMA- Registered Medical Assistant or

General Information:
The JMU Health Center is seeking new members for our team. This position is for a Medical Administrative Assistant. The MAA is a front desk position responsible for checking patients in and out, addressing students concerns, answering phone calls, etc. The University Health Center provides a comprehensive array of health care services and health education programs to JMU students. Included in our health care services are several medical clinics, a pharmacy, a medical laboratory, and other programs that provide services for more than 30,000 patient encounters a year. * Ensures that students are in the correct location for their appointment and assists with check-in process.

JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant will provide clinical support, assist with administrative tasks, and provide general support under direct supervision of a licensed practitioner or designee in accordance with UVA Health policies and procedures and competency to promote patient health and wellness.
This position requires providing service to all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
Patient Care: Responsible for practicing safely within the defined standards of practice.
Records and relays patient information, symptoms, and concerns to the patient's medical provider or registered nurse for further triage assessment and to determine a plan of care
Completes standardized rooming and performs clinical intake, health data collection, and documentation.
Performs tasks according to scope of practice, documented competencies, and as directed by a licensed practitioner or nurse.
Implements age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs as directed by the patient's medical provider.
Reinforces patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs and the condition and age of the patient through approved educational materials or written instructions
Communication: Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the interdisciplinary team, patients, medical providers and all levels of healthcare.
Conveys information to physicians, nurses, and other team members, as well as listen and respond to the needs and concerns of patients and colleagues
Utilizes appropriate communication tools.
Documents patient information in EHR.
Teamwork: Willing to share responsibilities, support their teammates, and work together to achieve common goals.
Organizes and prioritizes daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency.
Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care. Recognizes the importance of time sensitive issues.
Technical Competence: Uses knowledge and skills acquired through training and validation through competency testing.
Provides clinical support under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or GED Required.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in a clinic setting preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure: Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) credentials or must be obtained within 6 months of date of hire through a recognized national professional association such as:
