POSITION PURPOSE: Medical Assistants perform under general supervision a variety of medical and clerical tasks in an outpatient clinical setting serving the Native American population. It is the expectation that the medical assistant will initially triage patients within an age range of pediatrics to geriatric, will register, assist with administrative services, assist with direct patient care and perform specialized medical procedures as per the organizations policy and procedure and provider by-laws. ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: Administrative duties, including but not limited to, answering incoming telephone calls, scheduling patient appointments, obtaining required referrals for providers and collaborative care. Maintain and stocks medical supplies as necessary. May precept new employees to meet departmental competencies and job responsibilities. Prepare a patient chart, obtain and or update a patient's demographic and medical history including, but not limited to: allergies, medication history with dosage and frequency. Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures. Knowledge of clinical outpatient administrative procedures. Ability to perform standard clinical procedures. Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments. Ability to maintain quality, safety, and or infection control standards. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned. MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Graduation from a certified Medical Assistant training program . Experience: Two (2) years of work experience as a Medical Assistant OR graduation from a certified Medical Assistant training program. Certificate: A current BLS (BLS) certificate. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual skills in English and the Keres native language. Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
