Assists the Office Manager with the execution of all aspects of the back-office operations
Reports all potential employer liability issues and/or dissatisfied patient complaints to the Office Manager immediately
Reviews schedule, preparing rooms and instruments for the day's activities
Prepares trays for procedures, including but not limited to, biopsies, excisions and shave removals, Cryotherapy and I&D
Verifies all patient information accordingly
Rooms patients, ensuring all necessary consents and photos have been completed
Aids providers during medical and surgical procedures, including but not limited to, patient care and education
Prepares patients for any preliminary test requested by the provider
Obtains signed consent from patients for procedures
Assists providers throughout a patient's visit with office-based procedures including not limited to shave biopsies, punch biopsies, excisions, and bandaging patients
Maintains logs with patient information
Scribes patient information accurately in the EMR system; including medical history, chief complaint, all the provider's notes during the visit and Rx information
Administers injections, removes sutures, bandages wounds, and assists with procedures upon request of the provider
Maintains biopsy logs and assures proper follow up and documentation for any biopsy results requiring further medical care
Cleans and sterilizes surgical and other equipment as needed
Maintains detailed records of sterilization procedures, equipment maintenance and supplies.
Examines and maintains sterilization machines
Inventories and assists with order placement of medical supplies
Verifies all medical orders received at clinic
Updates personal job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications, attending seminars, conferences and continuing education courses
Use of Microsoft Office Suite products, including but not limited to, Planner, OneNote, Outlook, Forms, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

This job operates in multiple fast-paced professional medical clinics with multiple medical providers and supporting staff.
Physical Demands
The employee is required to stand and use both hands for typing for extended periods of time.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days of work are Monday through Friday. Long hours and occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
This position requires up to 50% travel. Travel to multiple clinic locations, which are located throughout the Inland Empire and surrounding areas, will be required throughout the week, and at times on short notice.

Education and Experience
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Certification Program: National Certification preferred
Medical Assistant: 2 years' experience in a medical clinic setting; Dermatology experience preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid Certification preferred
Certified Dermatology Training (CDT) within the first 90 days

Call in refills to a pharmacy, under the direct supervision of the physician or podiatrist. The medication refills must be exact and have no changes in the dosage levels. The refill must be documented in the patient's chart as a standing order, patient specific. The Medical Assistant is expected to call in to the pharmacy medications the same day the provider gives the order or follows any specific day or time that is stated in the order or by the provider.
Completes actions, responds to voicemails, and addresses telephone encounters at the end of the day or within 24 hours.
Maintains workstation according to protocols. Prepare exam rooms, ensuring proper inventory supplies. Performs routine quality check of equipment and promptly reports damaged or missing equipment from patient rooms.
Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs or contacting the Clinic Manager or Designee.
Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment, and medications.
For safety and security reasons, the MA is responsible for knowing the whereabouts of a patient anytime the patient is in clinical areas. In the event a patient or clinic emergency the MA may be called to activate the proper “code” assisting Providers and clinical staff with the appropriate emergency response. In the event of an evacuation, the MA will assist in the evacuating of patients being seen by his/her Provider (s) as scheduled.

Qualifications:
Excellent communication skills at level necessary for taking patients medical history, understanding Provider and supervisors instructions, and for accurately documenting patients medical information. BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Back Office Supervisor, the Clinic Medical Assistant shall be responsible for assisting their assigned provider in clinic with all aspects of the patients' visit.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work is primarily performed in the Clinic located in Arrowhead Orthopaedics' offices. The duties of the Clinic Medical Assistant are of high volume, and the quality of duties performed is needed to be at a high level. The employee will come into contact on a daily basis with confidential patient files. The Clinic Medical Assistant must be able to handle this information with the highest degree of privacy, discretion, and professionalism. The Clinic Medical Assistant is required to be available to the physician and patients while in clinic, and is only authorized to leave an ongoing clinic with the direct permission by the Back Office Supervisor.
The Clinic Medical Assistant is responsible for accomplishing the duties set forth below:
General Activities (There may be other duties required of this position not listed below):
Ensure that authorization is complete for the patient visit.
Ensure that all necessary diagnostic studies and reports are available for the provider to review.
Ensure proper documentation in our EMR system for patients' visits. This includes, but is not limited to, using the appropriate template and completing the history portion including medication, past medical and surgical history, weighing all new patients, and taking vitals.
Document in EMR any changes in patients' conditions since last visit.
Bill all charges for services rendered and make sure that there is documentation in EMR justifying the charges.
Create proper documentation in EMR as needed for any diagnostic testing or therapy or surgical procedures ordered by the provider, and forward the appropriate authorization.
Act as the liaison between the patient and the provider.
Return all patient phone calls the same day and document in each patient's chart any instructions or concerns.
Work with the provider's Patient Services Representative and the Back Office Supervisor to ensure that the provider is scheduled appropriately.
Communicate with front desk staff any delay in the provider's schedule for the day.
Keep exam rooms stocked with medical supplies and linen.
Clean and empty rooms of dirty linen and red bag waste daily.
Clean dirty instruments and prepare them for sterilization on assigned day each week.
Perform other responsibilities as may be called on by the Back Office Supervisor.
RELATIONSHIPS:
The Clinic Medical Assistant should observe and conduct the following relationships:
The employee shall be responsible directly to the Back Office Supervisor. The employee shall report to the Back Office Supervisor and his/her assignees any progress, reports, requests, concerns, problems, and/or expectations in relation to the responsibilities of the position. Job Duties

Summary
The Medical Assistant performs a combination of administrative and clinical tasks within our clinic. The Medical Assistant works alongside other medical staff under the clinical supervision of a physician or Mid-Level Provider and administrative supervision of the Clinic Manager and ultimately the Director of Operations. Medical Assistants perform a range of clerical and clinical tasks that help maintain organization and keep the clinic running efficiently. The Medical Office Assistant is responsible for managing the flow of patients into and out of the clinic; they must maintain daily knowledge of provider delays, insurance eligibility and authorizations, provider scheduling preferences, and communicate these to patients to maintain an appropriate daily patient flow; will greet patients, activate patient files. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Medical Assistants (MA) are responsible for knowing MA scope of practice and working within it.

Pre-visit preparation, including historical medical records and lab, imaging, and test results. Performing data entry tasks to document patient records within clinic databases and maintaining patient files.
