Responsibilities
Assists healthcare providers with the patient care process in person, and over the telephone. Practices within scope and current standards of care. Responsible for customer satisfaction.
Provides direct patient care that may include working with patients of all ages, in person and over the phone, completing tasks involving the use of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation skills, and administration of prescribed medications and treatments. Responsible for several tasks related to the paper flow through office. This aspect may include, but is not limited to, working with incoming mail and faxed correspondence, assisting in scanning correspondence and paper medical records and conducting quality assurance.
Assists with various aspects of diagnostic testing including obtaining and/or preparing specimens, labeling/recording, and communicating results. Performs miscellaneous CLIA-waived testing. May perform EKG's/rhythm strips, spirometry, pulse oximetry, nebulizers, as well as other testing outlined by the provider.
Complies with all clinic policies and procedures including, but not limited to blood borne pathogens, chemical safety, laboratory, administrative, and corporate compliance. Applies the Minimum Necessary Standard when accessing protected health information.
Assists in the clinic financial performance in ways which may include, depending on setting: careful use of resources including supplies, equipment, and time; assisting in the collection of upfront copays; ensuring that patients present for check-out; noting when contact or insurance information does not appear current or correct; following policy related to bad debt situations. Obtains appropriate insurance referrals and pre-certifications.

Use of Reference Lab: (a) Should be able to look up which tubes are needed for testing and test codes; (b) Will be responsible for making sure all patients and tests are entered correctly into computer; (c) Keeping all equipment for reference lab stocked; and (d) Retrieving results from reference labs.
Assist physicians with all procedures.
Stocking patient refrigerator and refreshment area and keeping it clean, as directed by site-supervisor.
The MA will have a main office for which they will usually be working; however, he/she must be flexible enough to work at all locations as needed and have reliable transportation.

The Health Room Assistant assists in the provision of District Health Services under the supervision of a school nurse or administrator, who assigns specific duties, responsibilities, and provides policy and procedural guidance and direction. They are responsible for clerical as well as clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records and assisting the nurse with exams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Work effectively, collaboratively, and positively with employees, students, parents, medical personnel, and the general public with cultural competence.
+ Collaborate with the School Nurse (RN) and school staff to help students achieve optimal physical, emotional, and social well-being necessary for learning in a safe, inclusive environment.
+ Comply with directions from the School Nurse and the Director of School Health to perform delegated nursing tasks as assigned.
+ Administer first aid, medication, and specialized treatments under the direction of the School Nurse according to district policy and procedures to meet the immediate health care needs of students.
+ Report health and safety issues to the Nurse, Director of School Health, and building administrator.
+ Manage office telephone systems, including answering calls and returning messages.
+ Perform data entry tasks to document patient records within facility databases and maintain student files.
+ Support Wisconsin student immunization requirements to improve and maintain a healthy school environment and maintain student immunization records; provide follow-up on students not in compliance with state immunization law.
+ Perform vision and hearing screenings to improve and maintain a healthy school environment; under the direction of the School Nurse, provide follow-up on students who did not pass vision screenings.
+ Perform basic computer skills, including email, word processing, data entry of immunizations, health information, screening results, office visits, etc.
Qualifications:
- Active Medical Assistant Certification
- CPR certified
- 1 year experience as a medical assistant and working with kids
