A Patient Support Specialist/Physical Therapy Technician who excels in this role will:
Welcome patients and visitors in person and over the phone, answering or referring inquiries in a friendly and professional manner.
Schedule and manage patient appointments to optimize provider time, treatment room use, and patient satisfaction.
Prepare patients for physical therapy treatments by assisting them into appropriate apparel, positioning them for care, and ensuring their comfort.
Assist therapists during treatments by setting up equipment, monitoring exercises, applying heat or other modalities, and tracking patient progress as directed.
Provide information and reassurance to patients, addressing questions and easing anxieties before and during treatment sessions.
Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, accounts, and financial information in compliance with clinic policies and privacy regulations.
Support clinic operations by filing and retrieving treatment information, collecting patient charges, and updating financial data.
Ensure a clean, safe, and well-organized treatment and reception area by following established procedures and safety protocols.
Report equipment issues or maintenance needs and assist with preventive maintenance as directed.
Contribute to a positive team environment by collaborating with colleagues and taking initiative to support daily clinic functions.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Responsible for maintenance of medical records and scanning charts to patient files.
Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence
Ensure reception is well maintained
Conduct courtesy call-backs for patient follow-up.
Perform opening and closing duties, which includes cashing out, end-of-day communication, and securing the building.
Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain Quality Assurance/Quality Control logs for equipment troubleshoot breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed.

Title and starting pay rate of this position may vary based on years of experience.
Responsibilities:
* Check schedules and organizing patient flow.
* Accompany patients to exam/procedure room.
* Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
* Collect patient information/history; taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
* Relay instructions to patients/families.
* Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
* Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol.
* Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
* Clean according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records.
* Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
* Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
* Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
* Perform phlebotomy, EKG's, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
* Assist physicians with procedures. Document patient information into the medical record.
* Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
* Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
* Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments.
* Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
* Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
* Other front office responsibilities, as required.
* Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
* High school diploma or equivalent is required.
* Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
* CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
