CLERICAL DUTIES:

-PHLEBOTOMY DUTIES:
-Recognizing appropriate collection tubes for requested testing.
-Good Venipuncture technique.
-Asking for help when venipuncture is missed.
-Good capillary collection technique, i.e., fingerstick, heelstick.
-Good pediatric venipuncture technique.
-Recognition of appropriate amounts to be drawn for requested testing, including microsampling.
-Looks up “send out” test requirements and processes the specimens appropriately.

Assistants must help Orthodontists to clearly see problems and changes within a patient's mouth. This often requires taking x-rays of the bone structure of a patient's jaw, as well as taking photographs of the teeth and creating molds of a patient's bite.
They also ensure that the necessary tools are sterilized and in place, and keep a patient's mouth clean and dry during procedures and will hand an orthodontist the necessary tools at the appropriate time.

Ensures any medications brought to the visit by the patient are placed into patient's chart. Verifies patient's history prior to seeing the physician.
Obtains patient's vital signs including weight, blood pressure, respiration and pulse and ensures they are recorded in the EMR.
Assists the physician with office procedures to carry out a specific task, as a second pair of hands do not require administration of medications.
Collaborates with the RN's and LPN's to provide high quality patient care.
MA maintains working knowledge of OSHA compliance standards and applies these policies and procedures to daily responsibilities and completing, in a timely manner, all training and in-services, including but not limited to annual OSHA training and PPD placements.

A day in the life of this role:
The Float Certified MedicalAssistantassists providers by performing a variety of patient flow, supply and environmental duties to support the health care team in the delivery of high quality patient care. Must be able to travel to all three locations in Harwich Port, Wellfleet and Provincetown.
Summary of duties:
* Review electronic medical record (EMR) prior to patient's scheduled appointment
* Ensure all lab results, consult reports, and hospital discharge records are available to the provider in the chart and note dates of completion of the most recent primary care screening tests
* Properly identify patient in accordance with OCHS policy and procedures and escort him/her/their to the exam room; review and record reasons for visit, current medications, and update history as noted in adult health history form/interim history form as well as conduct a thorough patient interview.
* Provide patient with forms to be completed prior to provider/nurse visit (learning needs assessment, depression screen, consent forms as necessary)
* Accurately perform and record patient's vital signs, height, weight and oxygen saturation as appropriate
* Assists in preparing patients for examination; assists patients in undressing, dressing, and getting on and off the examination table
* Assist providers and nurses with patient visits, including but not limited to, diagnostic studies, and treatments, preparing labels, and printing labs
* Conduct hearing, vision, breathing and EKG testing; records results in EMR; reports abnormal findings to provider
