Position Overview:
The M.A. is assigned to a specific floor of the facility and given tasks related to that floor. The M.A., under the direction of the Team Leader and/or Nurse Manager, utilizes the computer to enter and retrieve data from RESource, Quest computer and email. Communicates care rendered, provides assistance to physicians and clinical staff in order that patient care is accommodated, stock is maintained, and the environment is maintained in a clean, orderly manner. This is a Float position with rotations to our Danbury, Trumbull and Stamford offices.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Assist in morning monitoring (blood drawing, chaperoning, RESource data input)
Setting up and assisting in retrievals, including pre-op vital signs.
Setting up and assisting in transfers, including giving discharge instructions.
Cleaning rooms (procedure and dressing room) after procedures. (Empty garbage bins during day if needed, otherwise at end of day place outside of procedure rooms).
Clean and sterilize equipment, soak ultrasound probe.
Restock procedure rooms, dressing room and pt. bathroom as needed, give weekly list to Team Leader or designee by Thursday of what needs to be ordered. (Must verbally tell her if something is needed immediately).
Laundry, place by backdoor end of day on Monday. Unpack and distribute laundry when it arrives.
Red bag, when full package for pickup.
Weekly log (O2, suction check, refridgerator, eye wash stations)
Restock refrigerator in Recovery Area.
Prep charts for next day's cases, including printing RESource stim report. (On Friday's, prep charts for weekend and Monday)
Make copies of forms as needed for first floor.
When finished downstairs, come upstairs to assist on second floor:
Filing
Mailing, making packets, etc.
Prepping charts
Weekly: Eye wash stations on first floor, Sweep then Sterile mopping of proc. Rooms, Sterilizer maintenance, Empty sharps containers.

Soak ultrasound probes for 10 minutes.
Empty, clean and sterilize speculums, etc.
Empty red bags.
Empty laundry in exam rooms as needed.
Weekly: Change ultrasound probe soaking solution, Pap letters, Eye wash stations, Inventory, Sterilizer testing, Empty sharps containers.

BLS/CPR, AED Certification required (must be completed within 3 month of hire date)

Job purpose
MedicalAssistants work with clinicians and nurses to provide high quality, cost effective medical care to patients in a patient centered medical home that is consistent with Fair Haven Community Health Center (FHCHC) policies and missions.
Duties and responsibilities
Anticipate the needs of the patient and clinical team, prepare patients in an efficient manner ensuring a smooth, consistent workflow.
Prepare patients in advance of seeing the clinician as appropriate based on the visit type, chief complaint and clinician's preference.
Perform tasks related to the visit that may include: documentation of chief complaint, review of medications and allergies, vital signs, completing preventive health screenings based on the age and sex of the patient, perform lab testing and/or procedures with a clinician order or per standing orders.
Answer and document incoming patient calls and respond to patients under the direction of the nurse and/or clinician.
Assist with administrative tasks as needed for patient care including but not limited to completing patient forms, scheduling patient appointments, and scanning patient information into EPIC.
Perform interpreting services (if qualified as a Spanish Language Interpreter)
Perform other necessary duties as required by FHCHC to achieve the goal of providing excellent primary health care in a patient centered medical home.
Participate in pod functions such as huddles and pod meetings.
Participate in team and departmental meetings.
Ensure patient confidentiality and safety per FHCHC policy.
Adhere to all health, safety and infection control protocols/policies.
Provide excellent customer service and culturally competent care.
Functions as an effective and competent team member, demonstrates ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Portray a pleasant and respectful attitude when: communicating with coworkers, patients, and internal and external clients; accepting direction and delegated tasks; and receiving constructive criticism.
Engage in performance improvement activities and act as an agent of positive change by looking for innovative ways to improve processes and advance clinical excellence.
Positively represents FHCHC in all internal and external encounter.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of a MedicalAssistant program (diploma) from an accredited school or be certified as a medicalassistant with a minimum of one year of experience. Basic Life Support Certification is also required.
Oral and written proficiency in English, bi-lingual fluency in Spanish preferred.
The selected candidate will have a thorough knowledge of medical terminology and relevant procedures, excellent written, electronic and oral communication skills, above average critical thinking and problem solving skills and strong computer skills.
