* Skilled in ophthalmic terminology, ability to type words accurately with speed and knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system; may be required to Scribe for Physicians if needed.
* Reviews patient's past and current medical and ophthalmic history, including information regarding medications, allergies and family history of eye problems.

SUMMARY
An Ophthalmic Technician is a valuable asset to an Ophthalmologist as they assist in providing excellent patient care to the patients during their visit. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone)
Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave
Anticipate Physician needs to facilitate the flow of the clinic
Practice urgency at all times with patient's time, as well as doctor's time and schedule
Comply with all company policies and procedures, including HIPAA
Verify patient's information by interviewing patient
Record patient's medical history and current medications and confirm purpose of visit
Record all data in the patient's Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
Check condition of patient's eyes by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements
Required skills include: dilation, refraction, pressures, and performing a variety of diagnostic tests including visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, auto refractor and topography
Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms and ocular medications
Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the Physician

Open and close exam rooms as needed

Job Overview
We are seeking a professional and experienced Clinical Assistant who will perform a variety of clinical tasks for a physician, as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensures that exam rooms are prepped, cleaned, and stocked in preparation for patients and between patients as required. Preps patient charts as required for appointments.
Preps patients for any in office procedures and assists providers as necessary with exams, treatments and testing. As well as, performs necessary procedures as required (phlebotomy, bladder scans, catheter changes, etc.)
Collect and properly label all necessary lab specimens to include but not limited to blood, urine, and biopsy tissue
Perform CLIA waved laboratory testing, strictly adhering to the policies and guidelines established by UVA and the practice
Effectively uses necessary PPE as appropriate and abides by safe handling and disposal protocols of medical equipment and materials
Provide patient education and training as needed to include by not limited to self- catheterization, bladder irrigations, pre-op instructions and post-op care
Utilizes electronic medical records for documentation and charting all patient information to include but not limited to phone encounters, appointment scheduling, lab results, provider orders, etc.
Cover phones for patient triage for prescription refills, appointment scheduling, and other duties related to aiding in patient care and treatment, by answering, documenting, and routing when appropriate all incoming patient calls
Obtains authorizations and pre-certifications for clinical treatments, exams, diagnostic testing, and prescriptions as required per the patient's health plan
