Key Responsibilities Responsible for administering medications/immunizations and performing routine care and/or medical assistant duties which require training and skill; Assist practitioners in the delivery of health care services such as examinations, clinical procedures, and medical treatments. Administer medications by mouth, intradermal injection, intramuscular injection, subcutaneous injection, including immunizations and tuberculosis testing. Take temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration readings, height and weight and other vital signs. Assist in orienting/training new nursing staff. Make appropriate entries in electronic medical charts (EMR). Prepare patients for examination by a clinician and assist in the examination when appropriate. Knowledge Skills and Abilities The ideal candidate is a reliable team player with strong oral communication skills who can work well with others in a respectful and professional manner. They should be able to understand basic medical terminology, follow clinic procedures, and stay within the Medical Assistant scope of practice as defined by the Medical Board of California. Attention to detail is key for maintaining accurate medical records, and they must be able to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and SHS policies is essential, along with the ability to use sound judgment and consult with clinicians when needed. The candidate should be comfortable using computers, especially for health information systems, and be able to learn new equipment and procedures quickly. Most importantly, they should be committed to creating cooperative relationships with students, clinicians, and coworkers in a campus-based setting.
