Responsibilities The Medical Assistant is part of a patient-centered care team composed of a clinical provider, medical assistant, and auxiliary staff providing urgent and primary care health services in a community health center setting. Perform EKG, ear lavage, audiometry testing and other tests as necessary. Assist practitioners during examinations as needed. Provide patient education and information as instructed by clinic practitioners and clinic protocols. Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards. Medical Office Maintenance Maintain adequate stock of medical supplies and forms in clinic areas and at the MA Station, checking supply levels regularly. Clean, sterilize and stock reusable instruments, as needed. Test medical and laboratory equipment in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Responsibilities Scribe-Specific Tasks and Duties: The primary role of the scribe is to assist the provider with documentation of each patient's clearly recording each patient's symptoms, history, physical exam, and documenting the diagnosis as well as treatment plans in the medical record during a clinic visit. At the start of the visits scribes checks the “document scribed” checkbox on the intake template at the top center. Accompanies the clinician into the patient examination area, or joins the appointment remotely by telephone, in order to transcribe a history and physical examination as given by the patient and provider. Under the direction of the provider, transcribes and places patient orders, including laboratory tests, radiology tests, referrals, etc. Documents any procedures performed by the provider or nurses in the EHR. Transcribes any consultation or discussions with family and/or the provider. Completes the patient's chart by transcribing results of any labs, x-rays, or other evaluations. In doing so, the scribe continuously checks on the progress of this data in order to get the patient's workup complete so that the provider is able to make his/her decisions regarding that patient. Scribe lists all proper diagnoses as well as any follow up instructions and prescriptions, as dictated by the provider. Scribe does not directly assist with patient care. The scribe documents orders generated by the provider. Scribe assists the provider and support staff with paperwork, telephone calls, faxing, and chart abstraction and may facilitate communication among the care team. Scribe is able to process portal communications and either task to appropriate member of the care team or get information from the provider to respond to the patient in a timely way. The Medical Scribe does not perform the following: Medications: A scribe cannot prescribe medications. Scribes cannot stop, start, or make any manipulation to any medications in the "medication module”. Orders: A scribe cannot order any in-house medications that are injected, ingested, or inhaled into the body including nebulizer treatments. Document Sign Off: The provider should always review the record and attest to its correctness and completeness. At the end of the day or shift, the provider should review the scribed documentation to ensure all events were recorded accurately. The provider generates the document, creating the completed "Master IM." The scribe does not. Patient Care: The scribe is not directly involved with patient care; can't touch the patient; can't handle bodily fluids; can't act independently without direct clinical oversight; conduct other duties while acting as the medical scribe; however, he/she may be asked to give patient paperwork during visit or discuss discharge instructions with a patient. The scribe can't give orders to Registered Nurses. They interact with patients on a limited level. For exceptions to this section, please see the “Optional Trainable Skills” section below. General Documentation: A scribe cannot document any of his/her personal objective findings or be involved in any of the medical decision-making. A scribe cannot act independently; instead, he/she must simply document the provider's dictation and or/activities during the visit.     Job DescriptionDescription: Urology practice in Antioch, CA, is seeking a part-time Medical Scribe Initially this will be a 90 day temporary position, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent position Hours of employment: 20 hours per week. Once training is complete, the specific work schedule is flexible. This position is ideal for an individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. Multi-tasking skills are key. You will have a high degree of responsibility and independence. The primary responsibility will be to prepare patient chart notes prior to the office visit. Review the prior chart note Import the results of previously ordered diagnostic studies in the preliminary chart note Import templates for procedures to be performed during the visit Depending on experience, qualifications, and interest, this position may also include front office and back office Medical Assistant duties including but not limited to: Taking vital signs and height/weight measurements Preparing treatment rooms for patient examinations and procedures Assisting MD during procedures (cystoscopy, vasectomy, etc) Practicing sterile technique Cleaning treatment rooms and sterilizing instruments following patient examinations Administering intramuscular/subcutaneous injections Scheduling appointments Responding to patient calls Prior authorizations Data entry into Electronic Health Record (EHR) Scanning and faxing Tracking inventory and ordering medical supplies. Phlebotomy certification BLS certified with CPR/AED proficiency. Education, Skills, and Qualifications: Completion of medical assistant coursework from an accredited program. High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent. Prior experience in an occupational health setting preferred. Knowledge and experience with electronic medical records. Current driver license and reliable transportation. Ability to travel, as required. Physical Demands: The position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time to perform various tasks. It also involves lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Good dexterity and hand eye coordination are essential for handling equipment and performing precise tasks. The role may involve repetitive tasks, requiring the candidate to have the physical capability to carry them out effectively. Additionally, good visual acuity is necessary for reading and accurately recording information. The candidate should be able to bend, kneel, and reach to access and handle materials and equipment. Excellent mobility is needed to move around the clinic and perform examinations efficiently.
