Responsibilities
Position Objective:
The Medical Assistant is a clinical role and is responsible for administrative and clinical tasks, such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, assisting physicians with exams, and performing front-desk tasks. This role is a safety-sensitive position as it involves direct patient care and administering medication. The incumbent will report to the Office Manager (or similar role) and will provide physician support services while providing positive patient experiences.
Responsibilities:
Greet and prepare patients for provider examination by obtaining patient history, chief complaint, current medications, medical history, allergies, surgical history, family history, social history, and other preventative medicine reviews, take patients' vitals, and record information in the patient electronic medical record
Assist provider with examination, treatments, and procedures as directed
Maintain complete and detailed records, electronically in the EMR, of patients' information
Measure and record vital signs and record them in the EMR
Accurately and professionally handle all front-desk operations, including answering phones, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, addressing routine inquiries, and triaging calls
Maintain patient medical records in accordance with the center's policy
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or providers' instructions to patients
Prepare both patient and room for examination
Complete patient phone calls including, but not limited to, proactive care coordination, medication reminders, appointment reminders, transitional care management, and complete documentation with telephone encounters accordingly.
Provide both patient and provider support during procedures by handing instruments or equipment to the physician as directed
Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment after use and dispose of contaminated supplies
Perform clinical duties including administration of oral and injectable medications, irrigation of eyes and ears, dresses and bandages wounds and incisions, starts and monitors IV infusion, and assists physicians with any/all procedures as requested
Perform in-office diagnostic tests including eye exams, electrocardiograph, administration of oxygen as ordered, pulse oximetry, peak flow, and inhalation treatments.
Perform in-office CLIA-waived lab tests
Carry out quality controls related to lab equipment and testing, complete and maintain lab-related logs, perform PT/INR utilizing CoaguChek/Coag Sense machine, and perform glucose testing utilizing glucometer
Accurately complete electronic medical records to include medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used
Monitor disposable inventory and place orders for medical supplies and pharmaceuticals as requested
Draw blood and process specimens for send-out
Provide patient education as directed by the provider
Assist front office tasks by performing additional clerical duties, including patient check-in/out, referrals, prescription medication management, inbound/outbound telephone calls etc.
Help maintain an adequate inventory of office medications and medical supplies and orders as needed
Assist in onboarding and training new Team Members
Assist with inventory and maintaining office supplies

Position Requirements/ Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of Accredited Medical Assistant program, preferred (RMA or CMA)
Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant
CPR certification, preferred
IV Start Certification, preferred
Phlebotomy experience, preferred (knowledge of various collection methods and testing, such as bleeding times, collecting donor blood, bedside testing, and preparing specimens)
Knowledge of medical coding, preferred

Responsibilities

GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Velocare relies on small-format facilities to operate our distributed supply chain solution and this role is responsible for performing and controlling a combination of manual and automated actions necessary for receiving, storage, and delivery of products to the customer location. **Responsibilities**
+ Deliver medical equipment using company transit van (non-CDL) to hospital customer locations (primarily the home of the hospital patient), and notify delivery status
+ Show empathy and compassion for customers/patients in every situation
+ Load and unload packages and products from vehicles to the home
+ Perform minor technical installation and de-installation in the home, and will troubleshoot technology in the home as the customer requires
+ Maintain vehicles in proper working condition, proper cleanliness, minor maintenance tasks, and may perform minor roadside repairs
+ Utilize handheld tablets for navigation and reporting status changes and inventory updates
+ Will hold self and associates accountable for conducting work in a safe manner, and assist in ensuring that depot personnel have safe, efficient equipment and vehicles to perform delivery functions and provide support for a culture that strives toward continuous improvement in operations and in Environmental, Health and Safety

**Qualifications**

POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant (MA) provides high quality, care for culturally diverse populations with acute and/or chronic illness in the Brevard Health Alliance outpatient care setting. They must be able to promote a safe environment for all patients including those with altered sensorium due to medication or an acute or chronic illness. MAs are responsible for collecting data, document using appropriate forms and electronic health records, follow policies, protocols and guidelines, adhere to policies and evaluate resources for each shift. Within their scope of practice, the MA performs routine administrative and clinical duties to assist the nurse, MD/DO/APRN/ or PA as part of the medical home healthcare team.
The MA is accountable to the Manager of the assigned area with scope of practice and clinical competence oversight by the Director of Clinical Operations or designee.
GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• High School Diploma or General Equivalency/Educational Diploma (GED)
• Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program or associate degree in Medical Assisting or one-year verifiable related experience as a Medical Assistant
• National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) Accredited Medical Assistant
Certification or Registration or one-year verifiable related experience as a Medical Assistant
o Verifiable related experience as a Medical Assistant for a minimal of 2 years could be accepted in lieu of above requirements.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Current BLS/CPR Certification from American Heart Association
• Knowledge of medical terminology, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance and basic clinical exam procedures

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Primary Accountabilities of the MA include, but are not limited to the following:
• Complete patient chart within established standards. Enter all applicable data into Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Verify chart for accuracy and completeness within established standards
• Prepare exam rooms for patient examination, keeping the rooms neat and clean between visits
• Prepare patient for examination and interview patient to record vital signs and medical histories
• Perform routine screening tests and assist the Provider with exams and minor procedures
• Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform other first aid procedures
• Perform routine laboratory tests, Electrocardiogram (EKG) and report results. Ensure all in clinic performed testing recorded in appropriate log books
• Administer medications or vaccinations as directed by Physician
• Acts on behalf of the Provider to authorize drug refills under direction of the Provider and provide prescription information to pharmacies per BHA protocol
• Clean and sterilize equipment and dispose of contaminated supplies or biohazard waste in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
• Discharge patients at the end of the visit and communicate with business staff to ensure appropriate scheduling of patients; maintain compliance with all department protocols, policies, procedures, and HIPAA
• Communicate openly with Managers, Director of Nursing or designee regarding any clinic issues or concerns
• Collaborate with integrated clinical team to ensure patients' medical needs are met in an efficient and timely manner
• Participates in departmental continues quality improvement efforts
• Assists with indigent medication program, as applicable
• Enters dispensed medication onto excel spreadsheet and reconciles pharmacy inventory as applicable
• Ensures pediatric patients are up to date on all immunizations and are entered correctly into EMR and Florida Shots
• Maintains lab and medical equipment Quality assurance (QA) as needed, and ensures QA's are being done appropriately
• Based upon education and experience, MA may serve as a resource and preceptor for other MAs, or provide oversight for day-to-day operations of the clinical area
• Documents in a timely, accurate, and concise manner.
• Performs daily duties and quality controls including but not limited to:
• AED check
• HgbA1C and Glucometer quality controls
• Medication refrigerator temperature
• Clean and Dirty utility room checks
• Stocking supplies
• Checking for expired supplies and medications
• Prepares, administers and documents medications with alertness to actions, side effects, adverse reactions and contraindication following BHA policies/procedures.
• Makes observations and reports changes in the patient's condition and other significant observations to appropriate team members verbally and/or in writing.
• Recognizes the signs of potential or active disruptive behavior and quickly intervenes with appropriate therapeutic interventions.
• Communicates effectively with a variety of individuals and functions calmly in situations, which require a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
• Adheres to ethical principles and standards while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries when delivering care.
• Maintains confidentiality. Performs nonstandard and specialized practical nursing activities according to scope of practice.
• Performs competent care for patients using the Medical Home model, specific duties include but are not limited to:
• Gather information from non-scheduled patients such as a chief complaint to document and communicate information to the Nurse and/or healthcare team.
• Check patients in for appointments and gather vital signs.
• Orders labs and diagnostic tests appropriate for the scope of practice following policy/protocol.
• Answer desktop alters and messages within 24-48 hrs. Call back patients within 24-48 hrs.
• Evaluate and work to close clinical gaps as indicated
• Perform daily huddle with healthcare team
• Participate in reaching annual Patient Satisfaction goals
• Perform pre-appointment phone calls and chart preparation
• Perform other administrative or clinical duties as assigned
