Essential Job Functions:
Ensure that patients are brought into an exam room in a timely manner so that when a Provider is ready to see the patient all intake duties have been completed as outlined in the clinical policies and protocols.
Obtain accurate vital signs on all patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Clinical Assistant will perform various duties under the supervision and/or direction of a Department or Nurse Manager and/or Supervisor depending on area of assignment. The three principal duties of this position are: Clerical/Patient Registration: Performs; receptionist duties, unit clerk laboratory duties, or patient registration duties; functions as the center of communication for areas assigned. Technician: Operates an Electrocardiograph machine to record electromotive variations and impulses of the heart for use in the diagnosis of heart disorder Phlebotomist: Collects blood and other patient samples from Emergency Department patient population. A Clinical Assistant - II functions in all three of the areas listed above and maintains associated competencies. Provides the essential direct link between the patient and testing service both in providing interpersonal contact and technical competence in obtaining appropriate patient samples. Performs other technical skills as trained.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate or G.E.D.
2. Ability to pass a medical terminology exam upon hire or have passed a medical terminology class in the past 2 years required.
3. CPR certification or ability to acquire.
4. Computer knowledge or willingness to learn computer skills.
5. Previous acute bedside hospital experience as Clinical Assistant, Nurse Aide, or EMT within the past 2 years required.
6. Ability to perform detailed assignments and work under pressure and possesses a high level of interpersonal communication skills to relate to patients, hospital staff and visitors.

The patient care team on Medical/Surgical and Progressive Care inpatient units consists of a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Clinical Assistant (CA). CAs are an integral part of hands-on patient care. Working under the direction and supervision of a RN, they have the ability to take and record vital signs, perform designated tests and collecting patient samples, and supporting patients in all activities of daily living. CAs meet patients and their families as they enter the unit, welcoming and acclimating them to the unit. CAs interact with unit staff, physicians, and other hospital department personnel.
