RESPONSIBILITIES
Hospital Corpsmen (HM) assist health care professionals in providing medical care to Navy personnel and their families. They may function as clinical or specialty technicians, medical administrative personnel and healthcare providers at medical treatment facilities. Specifically, Hospital Corpsmen may be called upon to:
Perform emergency medical treatment on SEALs, Seabees, Marines and other military personnel injured in the field, as well as on Sailors aboard ships or aircraft
Perform emergency dental treatment as well as construct dental crowns and bridges, process
dental X-rays and operate X-ray equipment
Serve as an operating room technician for general and specialized surgery
Help administer a wide range of preventive care and medications, including immunizations and intravenous fluids
Conduct physical examinations and assisting in the treatment of diseases and injuries
Maintain patient treatment records, conduct research and perform clinical tests
Assist Navy Physicians and Nurses in a variety of medical fields, including, but not limited to: radiology, physical therapy, phlebotomy, dental, surgery, family medicine, pathology, womens health and more

Responsibilities
The medical assistant performs assigned tasks of direct and indirect care in the ambulatory setting to meet the care needs of patients under the direct supervision of a physician (medical acts) or assigned supervisor. Medical Assistants (MA) in Hematology/Oncology are hired to Back- Office MA or Rooming MA as primary role. However, all MAs receive a rotation to learn the duties and responsibilities of all MA roles.
Back- Office MA: work collaboratively with the care team, serves as a customer service agent promoting positive patient experiences. This role can be considered administrative in nature, assisting with pathology and imagining requests, helping with incoming our outgoing clinical calls, med refills, faxes, prior authorizations
Front- Office/Rooming MA: Maintains clinic rooms, obtains vital signs, works closely with multi-disciplinary team for clinic flow, serves as a customer service agent, works directly with patients, supporting procedures.
Medical Assistants work independently on tasks but are always within a care team model. MAs sit directly with RNs, APRNs, PA, MD, and other team members
Procedures: MAs assist in the procedure room while providers perform Bone Marrow Biopsies, Fat Aspirates and physical exams
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Graduate from a Medical Assistant diploma or Medical Assistant associate degree program and/or hold an active Medical Assistant certification (CMA), or registration (RMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification.
Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
Active Medical Assistant certification (CMA), or registration (RMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) is preferred.

Certification and Licensure:
Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

Accurately chart patient encounters: history, exams, diagnostics, labs, treatment plans, prescriptions, and discharge instructions.

Completion of a Medical Assistant/Scribe program or 1+ year orthopedic scribe experience
• CNA, Pre-Med students or equivalent healthcare certification are encouraged to apply.

• Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to: • Patient medical history and physical exam • Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants • Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits • Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up • Prepare referral letters as directed by the physician • List all proper admission and discharge diagnosis as well as follow-up care instructions as directed by physician. • Make copies of ALL prescriptions given to Patients • Scan everything you made copies of along with what ever paperwork you are asked to scan • Dictation/faxing/phone calls and clerical tasks. Medical Scribes are asked to prepare referral letters as directed by the physician, via dictation or summary of the medical record. You may be asked to research contact information for referring physicians, coordinate referrals, prepare operative reports, make phone calls, and other clerical tasks as assigned. • Medical Scribes also spot mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation and check to correct the information in order to reduce errors. All addenda must be signed off by a physician. Medical Scribes ensure that all clinical data, lab or other test results, the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record. Alert physician when chart is incomplete. Medical Scribes must comply with specific standards that apply to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents and for keeping patient information confidential. • Excellent written and communication skills REQUIRED. • Strong medical terminology knowledge and understanding REQUIRED. • Must be able to work nights and weekends • Must be able to travel between locations • Typing 30 wpm, MS Office, etc.
