Clerical Duties

Previous experience working in an eye clinic of two years is required. Three to six months in the job would be necessary to become proficient in most phases of the work.
Contact with Others
Primary contact is with patients for the purpose of providing services, reassurance, exchange information, and to motivate patients to practice preventative eye care measures. Secondary contacts include, but not limited to primary care providers, medical records staff, pharmacy staff, billing office staff, and contract health staff. Contacts with other employees are to exchange information, solve problems, and coordinate services to be provided. All contacts require tact, courtesy, and professional decorum.
Scope and Effect
The purpose of the work is to enhance the quality of eye care provided by the Optometry clinic. This is accomplished through assisting the optometrist in direct patient care. What You'll Do
As a Certified Medical Assistant, you will provide support to the physician and care team as well as the patient to enable positive patient outcomes and a positive patient experience by end-to-end preparation for physician visit and more broadly. MJHC is only open during the day, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm.
Therefore, MAs are not required to to work evenings, nights, weekends or WNCCHS observed holidays.
Our MAs work collaboratively within an assigned pod. They are part of an interdisciplinary team that provides patient-centered care across the continuum. We recognize the hard work and initiative of our Medical Assistants (MAs). MAs providing direct patient care may earn a quarterly bonus up to $500 by meeting or exceeding quality and productivity measures.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Includes but not limited to the following:
* Assist healthcare professionals in providing patient care
* Help the primary care provider stay on time through effective implementation of the daily schedule.
* Obtain and document vital signs--including blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, weight, height, waist circumference, Capillary Blood Glucose (CBG) level, oxygen saturation (O2 Sat), hemoglobin (Hgb), and peak flow
* Instruct patients on preparation to complete physical examination
* Collect, label, and process laboratory samples (e.g., Pap smears, stool cards, urine samples, etc.) according to written protocols/policies and procedures
* Assist the PCP with minor surgical procedures (e.g., removal of benign cyst)
* Clean/disinfect/sterilize instruments daily
* Set up the medical examination rooms and clean-up after every patient, e.g. dispose of exam table paper, replace with new paper, wipe down exam table, properly dispose of waste and instruments
* Maintain the stock of necessary medical supplies in the assigned examination rooms
* Maintain medical supplies inventory according to established policies and procedures
* Prepare the electronic chart for the PCP encounter with the patient, i.e., ensuring appropriate documentation (e.g., laboratory test reports, specialty consultation reports, past medical records, etc.) is scanned prior to the scheduled appointment
* Administer immunizations according to WNCCHS Policy and Procedure on Immunizations
* As requested, prepare the patient for EKG procedures-including placement of EKG leads

As a Medical Assistant or LPN you will be an integral member of the BRH medical team assisting with the direct care of patients and clinic activities. We are looking for a team player that can help build a positive environment with a desire to work in an interdisciplinary healthcare team and with a culturally diverse patient population. Responsibilities include:
Working in a fast-paced medical office setting
Assisting providers with delivering quality patient care
Obtaining and recording vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, etc.)
Performing basic medical procedures such as blood draws and EKGs
Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
Recording patient information in electronic health records (EHR) systems
Answering phones, responding to inquiries, and relaying information to providers
Adhering to HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
Contributing to a positive and cooperative team environment
What We're Looking For:
Knowledge of medical terminology and common medical documentation preferred
High School Diploma or Equivalent (required)
Medical Assistant Certification or Registered Medical Assistant preferred- Must obtain certification within 18 months of hire date if not currently certified (We can help you get it - ask us how!)
Licensed Practical Nurses - NC licensure preferred (we will pay for your license renewal!)
Medical phone triage experience preferred
Ability to float between nearby clinical sites as needed
Bi-Lingual (preferred, but not required - we pay extra per hour for your language skills)

This care is provided to adults who reside in skilled nursing, assisted living facilities and private residences through a network of healthcare providers including Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Psychologists, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Clinical and Administrative Support Staff. The Medical Assistant is responsible for enhancing the performance of the clinical care team through supporting and facilitating clinical services with their assigned providers. The Medical Assistant is required to work in the field with the assigned provider as directed by Lead Medical Assistant or MA Manager/Supervisor.
You may be asked to travel to facilities up to 60 miles from your home.
This position will typically be a Monday- Friday dayshift. Hours: Mon-Fri - 8 hour dayshift (flexible) * Mileage reimbursement plan is offered. Provider Support
Ensure that the clinical provider in the assigned building is able to focus on taking care of their patients for the day
Ensure that each patient is seen as medically necessary per clinical protocol.
Serve as a “buffer” between provider and families/staff to facilitate proper patient management.
Document appropriate encounter and time for CCM and BHI services
If scheduling is assigned: Scheduling rosters should be updated daily to ensure accuracy and schedules sent timely.
Assist with any day-of changes to the scheduled visits due to acute needs, hospitalizations, admissions, or discharges
Prepare clinical documentation for assigned providers each day
Complete basic opening of encounter note as per discipline protocol
Perform medication reconciliation on all scheduled patients each encounter
Enter appropriate facility chart data on all scheduled patients each day into patient encounter notes and assign to provider
Enter lab and other diagnostic study results into patient encounter and assign to provider as per guidelines
Assist with collection and sorting of all clinical paperwork needed for clinician review and ensure completion each day
Host telehealth sessions for providers as assigned by manager/supervisor, both routine and acute visits
Facility Support
When scheduling is an expectation for your role:
Share patient schedules with key facility staff as needed.
Assist with any triage needs as directed by assigned provider (whether they are in or out of the building that day)
Assist with triage documentation as needed.
Ensure that all needed paperwork is routed for the facility to Eventus providers, office, or families.
Assist with consents for any services needed.
Attend stand up meetings to report any needed information from the facility to Eventus providers and vice versa if allowed by facility.
Assist with discharge planning of clinical services as needed.
Ensuring check in and out each day with facility staff regarding patients seen, status, etc.
Patient Support
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Document appropriate encounter and time for CCM and BHI services
Check all forms of communication several times daily to ensure patient needs are met.
Inform patient and family of recent visits, new orders and defer to provider when needed
Communicate transitions of care to CCM team to enhance patient care and education.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Medical Assistants are expected to be knowledgeable and adhere to Eventus WholeHealth standards, policies and procedures and outlined in employee handbook including HIPAA rules and regulations.
Medical Assistants should adhere to the Eventus WholeHealth dress code policy i.e. clean, wrinkle-free, matching scrubs with appropriate, closed-toed footwear and name badge.
When duties are completed ahead of scheduled workday, report to your Lead Medical Assistant for any additional assignments.
