Job Description Responsible for supervision of self-administered medication for the Assisted Living Department in compliance with Federal & State regulations and Senior Lifestyle Corporation guidelines as directed by the LPN/LVN/RN and/or the Assisted Living Director/Health and Wellness Director. Count and sign on approved form, all narcotics with approved personnel before accepting medication keys. Contact a supervisor immediately with discrepancies. Order all necessary medication and treatments from appropriate pharmacy or notify responsible party when supply is no less than 7 days. Notify supervisor when supply is less than 2 days and medicine hasn't been received. Responsible for receiving and verifying all medicine received is accurate according to pharmacy label and MAR. Notifies pharmacy and DH&W of any discrepancies. Responsible for proper storage of all medications and ensuring all lotions, ointments and liquids stored separately from oral medications. Responsible for dating all appropriate vials or bottles at time of initial opening and following pharmacy protocol on length of time they can be used. Responsible for removing all discontinued medication from med cart and giving it to the supervisor. Follows standing order procedures as outlined by practice. Follows CMA protocol to ensure accurate intake on patients for appointments. Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments, prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments including sterilization, and performs terminal cleaning of exam rooms. Performs a variety of routine blood drawing procedures to include venipuncture, techniques using standard equipment to include vacutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, syringes and butterfly needles. Assists providers in preparing for minor procedures and physicals. Assists with diagnostic tests, treatments and referrals. Maintains patient files, records and other information in Electronic Health Record. Draws and process blood, finger sticks and venous collections. Centrifuges, labels and stores blood samples for subsequent analysis by clinical laboratory staff. Administers prescribed medications including routine immunizations, therapeutic injections and inhalation medications via nebulizer under the direction of a provider. Assists in maintaining compliance with quality assurance standards, including CLIA. Performs various quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations. Operates Autoclave to sterilize instruments. Participates in Patient Centered Medical Home team meetings as needed quality improvement initiatives. Maintains inventory of supplies and follows replenishment process for ordering. Assists with billing duties including entering charges and diagnoses and following up with providers on incomplete information. Remains current on all required training for current year. Utilizes higher education, seminars, professional publications, and hospital in services to remain current in profession. Participates in safety program training, drills and education sessions AND may include assignment to an emergency response team. Understand and follow compliance with RHC guidelines, licensing, accreditation requirements and assure compliance with CLIA requirements. * Perform or assist with special skilled interventions such as wound care, cast removal, etc. (i.e., Orthopedics, General Surgery, and other offices) * Perform such related duties not listed herein but deemed in the best interest of the Medical Practices and NMMC. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: * High School graduate or equivalent and prior experience or training in the medical field (ie., Certified Nurses' Aide, Medical Technician, Medical Assistant Certificate, and CPR). * Typing skills required. Bilingual with French is desired. WORKER TRAITS: This position requires patience and tact in communicating with people of varying education levels and backgrounds. Accuracy is essential in communicating information to patients, in recording messages in telephone encounters, composing correspondence, making appointments, and keeping records. * Effective communication skills. Verbal ability is necessary for reading comprehension. * The ability to plan, organize and implement activities. * Self-motivated with ability to work independently. * Form perception required in perceiving details in test samples when conducting laboratory tests. * Finger and manual dexterity required in handling specimen, small pieces of laboratory equipment, and injectables. * Clerical perception is necessary to sort and scan reports and records, and the ability to assure the correct file is being updated. * Color discrimination required in distinguishing various shades and colors of specimens. * Ability to multitask. * Conform to policy and procedure in regard to attendance, working hours and punctuality. * Application to duties. * Maintain and respect confidentiality. * Participate in all mandatory in-services as required by NMMC. * Behave in a courteous, professional manner at all times. * Actively be involved in the day-to-day operations, with the goal of achieving exceptional customer service, and increased office productivity.
