Catalogs and communicates patient needs to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist and/or other clinical personnel. Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests; assists physician with exams; explains treatment procedures and physicians' instructions to patient. Observes patients and reports any changes in patient conditions to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist and/or other clinical personnel. Perform non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures based on medical instructions. Collects phlebotomy and other lab specimens; performs basic waived lab tests. Prepares and administers medications; changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and other first aid procedures; uses CPR skills when necessary, all under physician supervision. Maintains supplies, equipment, stocks and sterilizes instruments; practices OSHA safety standards; performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times. Processes patient phone messages, returning calls and routing them to other team members as appropriate; calls patients to obtain and relay pertinent information for the physician. Upon physician approval and authorization, calls in prescriptions to the pharmacy. Uses communication skills with appropriate medical terminology; and follows appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct; authorized individuals will use the ChenMed Rx system to support physician medication dispensing. Provides health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices. Follows up with coached patients via weekly calls. Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager's discretion. The CMA provides clerical and administrative support such as scheduling appointments. This position works collaboratively with Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, RN's LPN's and other department staff to meet the physical, psychosocial, education and spiritual needs of the patient and family. The CMA is responsible for patient flow for the provider through telephone response, exam and procedure assistance, patient education, patient call backs, and direct communication with both the provider and the Practice Manager. This position requires both front office/reception and direct patient care are required on a daily basis. Major Job Duties & Responsibilities Provides patient care which includes rooming patients, completing necessary vital signs, recording accurate information into the electronic medical record and other duties as assigned by the physician. Assists the physician with procedures. Prior to any procedure the MA must ensure that the appropriate consent has been obtained. Performs tests as directed by the physician (within the scope of practice). Completes monthly duties (i.e. check out dates, stocking rooms, sample drug closet, crash cart) as assigned in a timely manner to maintain practice compliance with rules and regulations. Manages care issues that are within the scope of practice such as suture/staple removal, dressing changes, injections, application/removal of braces/casts, etc. Communicates appropriately and clearly to the practice manager, co-workers, and physician. Supplies are to be ordered in a timely manner so that patient care is never impacted. MAs are cross-trained and able to function as front office staff if necessary.
