Prepare and administer immunizations or medications as directed by a physician. Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients. Obtain authorization for drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies. Assist with referral process; contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for additional tests, x-rays/MRIs or other diagnostic services and/or admission. Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies. Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms. Schedule appointments for patients. Conduct inventory and order medical, lab, office supplies or equipment. Maintain and follow established infection control procedures. Obtain prior-authorizations from insurers for referrals. Participate in the development of nursing protocols, accreditation, quality and other programs identified to improve patient care. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. One (1) year of experience in patient care or home care. 2. High School Diploma or GED. 3. Certificate of Completion in Medical Assistant Program preferred. 4.
