Summary: The Respiratory Technician administers diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to facilitate the patient's breathing. He/she evaluates the respiratory care for appropriateness and effectiveness and communicates findings/results to other healthcare professionals. Responsibilities And Duties: Prepares for patient treatment; receives orders from Physicians for treatment; reviews requests to determine requirements for treatments; prioritizes work assignments; gathers necessary materials and equipment transports to patient's bedside' prepares medications; explains treatment and breathing procedures to patient; follows protocols. Administers all respiratory care provided by department: administers MDI, medication nebulization, posture drainage, positive pressure breathing, mechanical ventilation, oxygen and aerosol therapy, incentive spirometry, etc. observes patient during treatments; performs auscultation, checks pulse, and respiratory rate; notifies Medical or Nursing personnel of any adverse reactions; records pertinent data on patient charts; carries out interventions appropriate to patient age, sex, physical and developmental needs; could assist with trauma, bronchoscopies, and critical care transports; provides neonatal respiratory care. Performs invasive procedures such as suctioning and arterial blood gas sampling/analysis to ensure proper airway function and to provide relevant diagnostic data. Perform evaluation: performs patient assessments and assigns appropriate care plans; reevaluates patients as scheduled; discusses care plans with Physicians. Maintains assortment of equipment to assure proper function; troubleshoots equipment problems and performs quality controls. Can speak to and perform the process of preparing contaminated instruments for cleaning, transporting contaminated instruments to sterile processing department, and how to retrieve clean sterilized instruments from sterile processing department. Assist with supply inventory by locating expired supplies and informing necessary personnel when inventory is low, depleted, or on backorder and takes appropriate action. 4. Accesses and handles selected medications and administers contrast. Administers contrast material in the correct dosage, route and observes patients for adverse reactions. Informs and assists physicians and radiologists with patient scheduling, patient transfers, and emergency cases ensuring that all preexam procedures are followed including allergic reaction and level tests. 5. Processes acquired images onto PACS. Ensures that images and records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling. Completes exam charges and image documentation in a timely manner. 6. Operates and maintains equipment including warm-up, running quality assurance checks, calibration, provide routine troubleshooting procedures, request repair and notifying supervisor of maintenance needs. Maintains a record of quality assurance tests to ensure that equipment runs efficiently and effectively. Maintains all passwords to each computer system. Participates in all aspects of The Joint Commission Continual Readiness. 7. Serves as a lead worker and resource to other staff as needed. Conducts maintenance on special procedures equipment and calibrates such equipment prior to each procedure, instructing technologists in the operation of special procedures equipment as needed to ensure quality care for patients. 6. /RESPONSIBILITIES Provides services required for the installation, repair, maintenance and training (general use of Pneumatic Tube System). /RESPONSIBILITIES The primary purpose of Sterile Processing is to assist in direct patient care by ensuring the Operating Room staff has correct, fully functional, sterile surgical instrumentation delivered in a timely manner consistent with the highest standards of customer service. Instrument Techs are asked to perform the four basic departmental functions (decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch) with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy. The manner in which an Instrument Tech will perform these duties will be characterized by resourcefulness, determination, courtesy, and professionalism. Techs are expected to build and maintain a comprehensive body of knowledge with respect to the standards and procedures associated with the preparation, sterilization, storage, and delivery of surgical instrumentation. Complies with UH and Departmental policies. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent experience is required. National certification through the International Association of Healthcare Service Materiel Management as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is required within one (1) year from the date of hire. Experience within University Health is preferred.
