Responsible for all medical services performed by the treatment center. Provides medical oversight and leadership to the varying clinical staff under their supervision to ensure the quality of care is provided to our patients. Essential Functions:
* Provides and/or ensures, via physician extenders, a physical examination of all patients upon admission and/or readmission, including, without limitation, annual physical examinations and health examinations, and reviews, at patients' request, the admissions-related laboratory results. All examinations shall be performed consistent with the applicable rules and regulations for medically monitored treatment programs/facilities in the state in which the clinic operates.
* Issuance of patient medication change orders and as such verbal orders may be issued. Supervision of nursing staff regarding changes in medication dosage via verbal or written orders.
* Will be available to staff for emergency management of patient care
* Referral of patients to primary care providers for medical conditions other than narcotic addiction
* Provide training to all clinical staff under the supervision of this role. Training will include but is not limited to, chart and dosing reviews, face-to-face training with the physicians and nurses based on chart review findings, and updates on any new policy or procedures. May provide additional clinical training support to other locations as requested.
* Participates in Quarterly Board Meetings to discuss state-specific strategic plans, performance improvement plans, quality assurance plans, budgets, staffing concerns, and patient care. Provides reports as requested
* Assist the Program Directors in the physician recruitment process as well as participate in the interviewing of prospective physician candidates.
* Ensure that the program complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations relative to medical care furnished by the program
* Attends weekly treatment team meetings to discuss patient care and outcomes. Provides recommendations to the team regarding alternative care options.
* The Medical Director is the professional tasked with labeling medication bottles in the absence of the pharmacist
* Consults with the Corporate Medical Director regarding patient care-related medical concerns.
* Performing other duties as may be assigned.

* Conduct educational seminars, in services, and presentations to physicians, nurses, and other health care audiences whose support for and understanding of the hospice program is integral to assuring that hospice services are made accessible to patients and families.

* Assist in the development of and actively participate in clinical training for all hospice patient care and admissions personnel.
* Actively participate in medical and nursing education programs on palliative medicine that may be provided by VITAS to medical and nursing colleges in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS
* Knowledge of the principles and practice of primary medical care, with at least a working knowledge of oncology.

* Ability to work collaboratively with patients' attending physicians to implement the hospice program and effect optimum medical care.
* Ability to work collaboratively with hospice employees and volunteers as part of an interdisciplinary team.
* Membership in good standing on the medical staff of an accredited hospital in the state in which the hospice is located.
* Medical malpractice and liability insurance in amounts and with carriers satisfactory to VITAS.

EDUCATION

This position will operationally (clinically) report to the Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Center and academically to the Chair of the Department of Surgery at the -UF COM-J. Every faculty member in the department will have a mentoring team assigned to them and participate in the department wide faculty development program.
* Develop and manage the Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy within the Heart & Vascular Center to provide adequate supervision and evaluation of the clinical work, and implement policies and procedures as needed to maintain and improve services and programs.
* Overseeing the delivery of high-quality clinical care in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy within the Heart & Vascular Center.
* Oversight of vascular lab operations within the Heart & Vascular Center, including patient care, quality control, and compliance with standards, including those set by accrediting bodies.
* Manage, direct, and participate in activities as needed in order to comply with administrative policies and external accreditation requirements, including Joint Commission and other regulations.
* Assist in the recruitment and retention of high-quality physicians to complement existing medical staff and meet patient needs.

* Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, and implementing quality improvement programs, including case study reviews, and other activities to continuously enhance patient care and performance vascular services (surgical, endovascular, vascular lab).
* Collaborate with the Center's multidisciplinary team, including interventional cardiology and interventional radiology, to deliver high-quality vascular care.
* Attend departmental and organizational leadership meetings.
* Work closely with other medical directors, hospital administrators, and community partners to improve vascular care within the healthcare system.
* Participate directly in patient care, including providing consultations, performing procedures, managing complex cases, and interpreting vascular ultrasound results.
* Rotate on a regular basis with Vascular Surgery colleagues on the call schedules and be in charge of developing all call schedules.
* Along with Vascular Surgery colleagues, arrange and facilitate divisional meetings, guest speaker courses and other presentations/classes pertaining to Vascular Surgery in order to ensure the highest quality of education for medical staff.
* Along with Vascular Surgery colleagues and general surgery program directors along with surgery clerkship director develop and deliver level appropriate Vascular Surgery didactic educational programs, including goals and objectives to medical students and general surgery residents.
* Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth among staff, including physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals ensuring that they are adequately trained and experienced to provide vascular care.

Overview

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited nursing program; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Must meet any additional state-specific requirements for the lead clinical role, including: RN license issued by the Florida Board of Nursing; minimum 2 years of supervisory or administrative experience in hospice or related health care setting; completion of a hospice training program sponsored by the employing hospice before assuming responsibilities.
