The mission of Risk Management is to provide a comprehensive risk management program that contributes to health, safety and protection of patients, employees, faculty, students and visitors, while also protecting the University's physical and financial resources. OHSU uses a combination of self-insurance and commercial insurance to fund risk of loss. Risk manages over 30 lines of insurance as well as a captive insurance company. Claims are managed internally by experienced claims managers. Function/Duties of Position Insurance Program Management Ensure insurance policies and all supporting documents are maintained; analyze existing policies for coverage and exclusions; anticipate and prepare for policy expirations. Plan timelines for completion of Property/Casualty and other applications. Work with insurance team to prepare specs for submission to markets. Responsibilities Essential Job Functions: * Investigate moderate to complex Homeowners claims to confirm facts, origin and cause of loss. * Address and handle ALL exposures of the claim, including Dwelling, Other Structures, Contents, Loss of Use. Investigations may include recorded interviews with policyholders or other witnesses, assigning appropriate experts, collaboration with other team members or vendors in carrying out virtual inspections, and use of other investigative processes and tools as needed. * Compare facts gathered during the investigation against policy to determine coverage of claim, extend or deny coverage as appropriate * Assess and determine extent of damages, and document with photographs, measurements, repair estimate, and thorough log notes. * Establish reserve amounts within prescribed settlement authority limit and negotiates settlement of claims; recommends claims which exceed personal authority limit to supervisor for approval. * Maintain claims on a regular diary to monitor unresolved issues and exposures. Regularly monitor progress and expense of ongoing claims. * Throughout entire claim handling process, ensure exceptional service is provided to customers. Interviews patients and uses a standardized tool to record all patient medication information including prescribed medications, over-the-counter medications, dietary and herbal supplements.
