Job Responsibilities:
Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
Assist with processing of specimens when needed
Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
Requirements:
Associate degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements
Previous clinical laboratory testing experience is highly preferred
ASCP or AMT certification is preferred
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus
High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

Responsible for all documentation required for the tasks performed, including review and troubleshooting of quality control, linearity tests, correlations, proficiency testing results, and specimen rejections.

Medical Lab Technician
Medical laboratory scientist job in Fairhope, AL
The main function of a lab technician is to perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. A typical lab technician may work under the supervision of a medical technologist. Responsibilities * Set up, adjust, maintain, and clean medical laboratory equipment.
* Analyze the results of tests and experiments to ensure conformity to specifications, using special mechanical and electrical devices.
* Analyze, gather, and record test data to issue reports that use charts, graphs, and narratives.
* Obtain specimens, cultivate, isolate, and identify microorganisms for analysis.
* Examine cells stained with dye to locate abnormalities.
* Consult with a pathologist to determine a final diagnosis when abnormal cells are found.

* Generalist experience in lab testing in all areas of the lab.
* Core lab experience in Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, Urine, and blood bank (blood bank experience is a plus).
* Ability to multi-task.
Work Environment
The position requires working in a 150-bed hospital. The shift is 1st (7am-3:30pm) from Monday to Friday. The candidate will be working alone during the shift. Instruments in use include Siemens Vista 1500, Sysmex XN-200, Sysmex CS-2500, IRIS iQ200, Nova Stat Profile Prime, and Cepheid GeneXpert.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
