Job Summary:
This opportunity is ideal for a seasoned Blood Bank professional with strong experience in type & screen, antibody identification, and transfusion processing, looking for a stable day shift assignment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Testing:
Perform laboratory analyses, quality control, and proficiency testing per SOP and CAP standards.
Verify specimen integrity, prioritize work, evaluate and interpret data, and document results.
Assist with evaluation and implementation of new methods.
Instrumentation:
Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment.
Document all QC and maintenance per policy.
Key Requirements
ASCP or AMT certification (MT, MLS, CLS) - required
Minimum 5 years of Blood Bank experience
Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related life sciences
Strong working knowledge of transfusion testing and laboratory instrumentation

Examine specimens for bacteria, viruses or parasites.

Look at the chemical content of the blood to determine deficiencies in nutrients or excesses of cholesterol or blood sugars.

Operates and maintains laboratory instrumentation. Performs preventative maintenance and troubleshoots problems to the full extent of ability.
Actively participate in the laboratory quality plan/program (ex. investigative reports, notification of delays, etc.). Performs quality controls and documents QC for each lab procedure on a daily basis and follows up on issues (troubleshoots).
Participates in external proficiency testing and in continuing education classes to maintain licensure and remain updated on changes in the clinical laboratory field.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
Required Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with course work sufficient to meet the requirements of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) for certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, Specialist, or HEW (MT).
Required Minimum Experience:
One year of experience working in an acute care facility as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, preferred.
Required License/Certifications:
MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), categorical or specialist (ASCP), MT(HEW), or MT(AMT)*
*new graduates must provide evidence of certification within 90 days of hire
