Determines acceptability of specimens within guidelines. Correctly identify patients through all phases of testing, Ensure proper storage of all patient sample, reagents, and laboratory inventory. Performs and document daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual, and as needed maintenance activities according to manufacturer's recommendation. Recognizes appropriate selections of test orders; can assist in making recommendations for proper test order. Selects appropriate culture media, incubation temperatures and atmosphere for microbiology cultures. Streaks plates with good standard isolation technique or for quantification (colony counts). Ensures that QC is tested and documented at frequencies mandated by manufacturers and regulatory agencies. Reviews worksheets and maintenance logs; investigates or corrects as needed. Ensures that outdated materials (kits, QC, or reagents) are not used; use oldest outdate first. Ensures timeliness of testing by organizing work for minimal turnaround time, performing work in careful manner to minimize repeat testing and turnaround time, referring testing to alternate sites if in-place systems are not operable. Perform and record competency assessment of testing personnel as delegated by medical director. Teaches both procedure and theory to students, peers, and new employees. Demonstrates skills in the post analytical phase of the testing process. Recognizes implausible results, unusual tests reactions, errors, and instrument malfunctions and can investigate & problem solve. Enters data results properly & carefully, including required notification & documentation. Reviews data entry for correctness prior to verifying results to minimize errors. Use pending logs to assess completion of testing to improve turnaround time. Uses computer functions to access information necessary for resulting out data and/or giving out results to customers. Serves as technical resource to our customers, patients, and coworkers. Prepares and arranges all stat testing needs, researches pending results, alerts Hospital IT to communication failures, accepts and troubleshoots incoming calls to the Hospital Lab from Quest Diagnostics facilities. Demonstrates excellent proficiency in test ordering policies, procedures, specimen requirements for test ordering, sample preparation,Care 360 and compliance/legal requirements. Troubleshoots and problem solves client issues related to area of responsibility. Communicates and collaborates effectively with the Hospital Lab Manager, as well as the Quest Diagnostics sales team and other functions in the organization. Relays client concerns to Quest Diagnostics supervisor and sales. Participates in sales/operations review of account. Communicates information regarding problem-solving with specimens, test cancellations, testing requirements, billing requirements with various hospital staff, such as phlebotomy, outpatient draw centers, laboratory managers, department supervisors, Hospital IT Analysts, physicians, nurses, and pathologists. Develops understanding of the company processes, as well as the client expectations. Develops understanding of the compliance policies related to test ordering. Researches test ordering information on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services. Understands the complex relationship between test(s) ordered and specimen received. POSITION SUMMARY Under limited supervision, conducts in-process and finished product testing to determine adherence to established specifications of quality and purity. This shift will be from 7 PM - 5 AM four nights a week after training. RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct laboratory tests and analyze data for a variety of purposes, such as production, pollution control, quality control, and minor research. Test and analyze products, such as feed, beverage, and industrial alcohol, to determine if product meets plant specifications prior to release. Release in spec vessels and report out of spec vessels. Test and analyze production samples, such as fermenters, beerstills, rectifiers, etc., and report uncharacteristic results. Test and analyze wastewater samples to ensure effluent is within GPSD discharge limits and report any violations. Document results of tests, readings, etc. in logbooks and in TLC (Total Lab Client). Complete certificates of analysis. Prepare chemical solutions for use in lab. Maintain and calibrate all lab equipment and related field instrumentation. Maintains awareness and adheres to all FDA, GMP, TTB, USP, EPA, OSHA and employer standards and guidelines. Support and comply with all food safety, quality, and legality requirements.
