The Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT I) is an entry level position that functions under the direction of licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientists. Responsibilities include performing routine laboratory tests classified by CLIA as waived and moderate complexity, except for tests involving microscopy or immunohematology. Overview
Candidate Performs pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phase testing of moderate complexities as defined by Clinical Laboratory improvement Act/Amendment (CLIA). The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for the accuracy, reliability and timeliness of patient test results used for the diagnosis, management and treatment of patients. Communicates technical or general information to Senior CLS, laboratory manager, director and medical staff. Monitors routine laboratory functions, initiates corrective action and works to improve laboratory service and patient care.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Demonstrates proficiency, competency and understanding of fundamental principles of clinical laboratory procedures with minimal amount of supervision.
Monitors and is accountable for test data, quality control, quality assurance, preventive maintenance, proficiency testing and all operations related to laboratory testing of moderate complexity procedures.
Notifies Laboratory Manager of any irregularities of factors, which may influence test results.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment and test methods.
Identifies and resolves unusual laboratory situations and notifies laboratory Manager.
Assists in evaluating new tests procedures when requested.
Maintains overall safety (including chemical and biological) of the department in accordance with established safety, infection control and procedure protocols.
Monitors supplies and reagents and notifies appropriate parties of par levels.
As necessary and appropriate, may perform any clerical or other duties of support staff/laboratory assistants that may be assigned such as performing phlebotomy or sample Accessioning, and clearing of work area.
Participate in educational workshops, meetings, and seminars.
Accepts responsibility of assisting in work areas not primarily his/her own.

The Medical Laboratory Technician I (MLT I) is an entry level position that functions under the direction of licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientists. Responsibilities include performing routine laboratory tests classified by CLIA as waived and moderate complexity, except for tests involving microscopy or immunohematology. The MLT I's activities include operating and maintaining test equipment, performing, and documenting QC, recognizing, and responding to problems, and verifying and reporting test results of waived and moderate complexity. Additional duties include general support functions necessary for the routine operation of the laboratory. Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the developmental issues of the patient population(s) being served.
Performs routine waived and moderately complex tests as defined by Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). Performs 24-hour urine measurement.
Operates, calibrates, and maintains lab equipment and instrumentation used in routine, automated clinical testing. Performs Instrument maintenance and record keeping.
Provides for the appropriate educational experience of clinical laboratory students assigned to the division.
Reviews and ensures reliability of results personally performed based on quality control and assurance mechanisms, specimen integrity, known clinical history or delta checks, and takes corrective action as necessary.
Reviews new and existing policies and procedures according to established protocols.
Verifies specimen identification, assesses appropriateness of test orders and quality of specimen by recognizing factors that affect procedures and results; takes appropriate action when corrections are indicated.
Performs phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture and capillary puncture; uses proper technique in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Follows Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Follows SOPs for specimen receiving and distribution.
Assists in new test validations, new procedure/test implementation and evaluation. Assists in biannual test method correlations and Analytic Measurement Ranges (AMRs).
Performs routine maintenance and QC on analyzers. Performs waived and moderate complexity testing on POC analyzers.
Requirements:
Associate Degree/College Diploma in a biological science, chemistry, medical technology, or a related field.
CaliforniaMedical Laboratory Technician license.
No experience required, one year of experience in Point of Care Testing is preferred.

It is not required to work in our lab, but if you were a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT), this experience and education would be a plus.
Ideally, you will have experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and / or clinical diagnostic analyzers).
