The Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician must promote good public relations for the department and Jennie Stuart Medical Center while maintaining patient/customer confidentiality. Testing personnel are responsible for performing the examination of materials or specimens taken from the human body to provide information or materials for use in the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of a disease or the assessment of a medical condition. To ensure the workflow within the laboratory is not hindered, attempting to solve any issues that are interrupting workflow. To be aware of on-call schedules for the Pathologist, as well as numbers for contact. To be aware of other contact information for section supervisors, as well as those in charge of other departments within the hospital (House Supervisor). To solve issues that arise during assigned shift and ensure occurrence management documentation and communication with section supervisors and laboratory management. Additional duties when assigned as float: You are not assigned to a specific department. This means that you may participate in shift handoff communication, but the person who is assigned to the department must be the primary handoff. To ensure breaks and meals are covered. The Medical Technologist I performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on blood and body fluid specimens under minimal supervision. This role ensures accurate and reliable test results by adhering to quality control protocols and maintaining laboratory instruments. The Medical Technologist I supports patient care by completing tests efficiently, troubleshooting equipment, and assisting in data collection for regulatory compliance. This position may also include teaching new employees and students and performing phlebotomy duties as needed. Essential Functions * Performs moderate and high complexity laboratory tests accurately and efficiently, ensuring timely reporting of results with appropriate documentation. * Adheres to quality control procedures by performing required checks, analyzing data, troubleshooting out-of-range results, and taking corrective actions as necessary. * Conducts daily, weekly, and monthly instrument function checks and preventative maintenance according to laboratory policies and procedures. * Troubleshoots instrument malfunctions, attempting corrective actions or notifying the appropriate personnel or manufacturer as needed. * Ensures all laboratory procedures comply with safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to the Laboratory Safety Plan. * Communicates effectively with peers, supervisors, and other healthcare staff, providing timely updates on unusual patient results, instrument malfunctions, and quality control issues. * Assists with proficiency testing and data collection required for laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance. * Collects chain-of-custody urine drug screens and performs phlebotomy duties as required to support patient care needs. * Collaborates with team members to ensure shift duties and department responsibilities are completed efficiently and accurately. * Performs other duties as assigned. * Maintains regular and reliable attendance. * Complies with all policies and standards. Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or, Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Science required or * Passing score on the Clinical Laboratory Technology Proficiency examination approved by HHS (HEW) required * 0-2 years of acute care experience required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, quality control protocols, and safety regulations. * Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with laboratory instruments. * Excellent organizational and time management skills to meet testing deadlines. * Proficient in using laboratory information systems and maintaining accurate records. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with healthcare staff. * Knowledge of population-specific competencies for all relevant patient demographics. Licenses and Certifications * ASCP - Medical Technologist required or * Medical Laboratory Technologist (AMT) required or * Medical Laboratory Technologist (AAB) required INDLABPHARM

Status: FT - Sat 6a-10p; Sun 7a - 11p; Analysis of various body fluids relating to the fields of microbiology, chemistry, serology, toxicology, urinalysis, coagulation, blood gases, special chemistry, and therapeutic drug monitoring to aid in the diagnosis of certain disease states. Microscopic analysis of human cells relating to the fields of hematology and clinical microscopy to aid in the diagnosis of certain disease states. Analysis of human blood relating to the field of immunohematology to provide adequate blood supply to the community and to aid in the diagnosis of certain disease states. Analysis of human sites of infection to identify pathogenic organisms relating to the fields of microbiology, mycology, mycobacteriology, virology, and parasitology to aid in the diagnosis of infectious disease states. Performance of Quality Control, maintenance, and trouble shooting of all analyzers and testing methodologies to insure quality of laboratory results. Computer entry - Accessioning of patients in the LIS Laboratory Information System and Resulting and Verifying said results in the LIS. Communicates proper knowledge of tests results to physicians, nurses, and clients (i.e. Panic values). Perform phlebotomies on patients to obtain proper samples for analysis, when applicable. Answer incoming calls from clients, physicians, and nursing staff. Assists in maintaining supply inventory, ordering, etc. Assists in training new employees/students. Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment. Prioritize STAT, scheduled and outpatient orders. Display courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff. Assist physician offices with all laboratory needs. Maintain a clean working area. Maintain patient/employee confidentiality and privacy at all times. Complete assigned duties efficiently and in a timely manner. Performs duties necessary to ensure quality in the department. Seek guidance and direction when necessary. Demonstrate the value of team concept on a consistent basis. Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
