Responsibilities

+ Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
+ Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
+ Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
+ Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
+ Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
+ Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.

Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or related field.
+ Minimum 1+ years of experience working in a CLIA certified or CAP accredited lab.
+ Instrument troubleshooting and calibration experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ ASCP or AMT certification is preferred.
+ Prior validation experience.
+ Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
+ Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
+ High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
+ Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen.

Key Responsibilities:
Prepare media, sterilize equipment using autoclave, and clean/rinse glassware

Monitor, coordinate, and/or perform quality control/ quality assurance activities within a defined laboratory. Provides support for laboratory technical and non-technical staff in order to expedite workflow and aides in the resolution of technical problems. Has a fundamental understanding of Specimen Processing, test performance, and reporting test results for all tests performed in laboratory supported.
Responsibilities:
* Must demonstrate proficiency in all principle duties of a Medical Technologist I and / or II.
* Manages/ coordinates activities defined on the department's "Quality Scheduler".
* Maintains LIS based QC software program including development of quality control (QC) targets and ranges. Periodically reviews/ adjusts QC performance limits.
* Manages/ coordinates parallel testing events for both new reagent and quality control materials.
* Manages all facets of both Internal and External proficiency testing programs; including pre-analytical handling, compiling and completing PT submission forms, cataloging PT responses, maintaining inventory of previously assayed PT materials. Coordinates and summarizing root cause investigations following sub-optimal performance.
* Maintains document control for all records generated during routine laboratory testing.
* Key resource for ensuring continues compliance with external regulatory agencies. Reviews unit activities to ensure compliance with departmental policies and federal, state, and local regulations.
* Involved in the management of training and competency documents.
* Works with supervisor/ department manager, providing support during the validation of new procedures.
* Reviews QA and QC records when applicable.
* Serve as a technical resource for the unit by investigating and resolving analytical testing problems. Recommending a course of action in instances identified as beyond acceptable limits, and responding to non-routine/complex inquiries and/or requests from clients and sales representatives.
* Review requests for validity checks and recommend an appropriate course of action taking into account the limitations of specimen requirements and the effects of time and the quality of additional and/or repeat testing.
* Assist with the department's annual competency testing process and documentation.
* Interact in a professional manner with inter-departmental teams and groups.

The Medical Technologist performs pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic clinical laboratory testing to assist other healthcare providers in the diagnosis and treatment of patients as well as in disease monitoring and prevention. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Follow polices and procedures (SOPs) for pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phase of testing.
Evaluates the acceptability of specimens for testing ordered, including documentation. Prepares specimen for testing, including accessioning in the LIS as needed. Monitor inventory and supplies and notifies the appropriate individual before supply is depleted.
· Performs laboratory testing for patient specimens and proficiency samples.

Specimen Processing/Testing/Reporting:
The testing personnel are responsible for specimen receipt, processing, test performance and reporting of test results (CLIA, D6068). Everyone performing moderate complexity testing must follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintenance of recorded test results, as authorized by the supervisor (CLIA, D6070). Monitoring test systems for proper test performance, accurate reporting of test results, and must report problems that could adversely affect test performance or result reporting. * Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test result.
* Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
* Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures.
* Review and release test results.
* Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as described in their respective guidelines.
