Role Description
Responsible for using clinical history and other patient information in arriving at the proper diagnosis for each cytologic specimen
Examine cytology specimens for the presence of abnormal cellular changes and pathogens
Sign out all negative gynecologic cases
Report other cytologic findings, such as the presence of microorganisms endocervical component
Evaluate and mark GYN (reactive and reparative, abnormal, questionable or negative)
Submit reactive and reparative, abnormal and questionable GYN cases to a pathologist for final evaluation
Record the results of each GYN slide read on the appropriate form/systems/etc. used in the laboratory, in a legible manner
Submit daily workload of negative GYN cases for a minimum of 10% quality control review (including random high-risk cases) by a supervisory qualified cytotechnologist.
Maintain appropriate records
Maintain compliance with workload limits
Maintain microscope in excellent working condition
Participate in continuing education in areas relating to Cytology
Qualifications
Proficiency in Laboratory Skills, including specimen preparation and cellular sample analysis

You Have:

* Coordinates outreach with development and maintenance of relationships with industry-related personnel and employers; participates in professional organizations promoting advancement of the Medical Laboratory Technician Program.
* Submits and maintains clinical contract requirements regarding Criminal History Background checks, Health and CPR.
* Recommends adjunct faculty to the Dean, chairs search committees for new program faculty members (full- and part-time) and coordinates respective orientation to the program.
* Evaluates adjunct faculty members and makes recommendations for renewal of contracts.
* Teaches courses as 50% of workload.
* Participates in a reasonable number of Divisional and College activities and committees.
* Earned Masters degree from a Nationally recognized accredited institution
* Holds ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist
* Documentation of 5 years of employment in the Medical Laboratory setting
* Has three years of teaching experience; including working knowledge of education methods
* Experience in an administrative role
* Experience with current NAACLS accreditation standards and certification procedures.
* Experience with data collection, trending outcomes
* Proficiency with technology & application software.
* Utilization of innovative teaching methods incorporating technology, including on-line resources
* Commitment to continuous improvement of processes, programs, and services

* Earned Doctorate degree from an accredited Institution in the applicable field of study

* Experience with accreditation included but not limited to writing self-studies, site visits, peer evaluator for nationally recognized agencies
* Experience in the community college setting
