A hospital in the Portland, Maine area is looking for a medical technologist or medical laboratory technician for the second shift. This facility is part of a large health care system covering much of Maine.
Salary: $2,300/week

Job Summary:
Discover the presence or absence of disease and provide data that help physicians determine the best treatment for the patient. Specialty areas of laboratory medicine include clinical chemistry, hematology, transfusion services, clinical immunology, clinical microbiology, serology and the emerging field of molecular diagnostics.
Skill Requirements:
Calibrate, operate, troubleshoot and maintain the equipment
Dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required to collect and prepare specimens
Lab safety and infection prevention is of paramount importance
Responsibilities may include but not be limited to:
Performing testing in any and/or all of the following areas of the lab: clinical chemistry, hematology, transfusion services (blood bank), clinical immunology, clinical microbiology, serology, and the emerging field of molecular diagnostics.
Matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking labeling; logging specimens; arranging reports for delivery; Maintaining quality results verify and equipment function, troubleshooting, calibrating equipment and monitoring quality control measures and protocols
Participating in staff training and educational opportunities; Identifying and communicating abnormal patient conditions reports mandated information to the public health department or other designated officials
Contributing to a safe and secure environment, following established standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
Maintaining patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential
Education, Certification, & Experience:
MT/MLS: Bachelor's degree in science and MLS(ASCP) certification or equivalent
MLT: Associates degree in science and MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent
Two (2) years of experience is required

Responsibilities
* Serve as Anatomy Prosector for the Anatomy Program in the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM).
* Serve as Surgical Workshop Coordinator for Continuing Medical Education courses scheduled through the Anatomy section of the COM Biomedical Sciences Department (primarily weekend workshops).
* Participate in the delivery of the Anatomy for Musculoskeletal Medicine Residency Workshop at the University of New England and Maine Medical Center.
* Assist with maintaining the Anatomical Donor Program, including fresh tissue procurement and Thiel embalming.
* Perform prosection of anatomical specimens for the body donor laboratory, photographic documentation, and workshops.
* Attend weekly anatomy discipline planning meetings.
* Operate and maintain the C-arm fluoroscope for workshop and classroom activities.
* Attend anatomy laboratory class sessions for the Osteopathic Clinical Skills (OCS) course and weekly course meetings as assigned by the supervisor.
* Assist in the construction, delivery, photography, and grading of the OCS Donor Exam.
* Lead small groups of students in the dissection of anatomical specimens.
* Provide remediation support for medical students in the anatomical sciences as needed.
* Assist in research activities conducted in the anatomy laboratory.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a biomedical science discipline with anatomy laboratory experience, or a combination of education and experience that provides comparable knowledge and skills.
* Prior experience in anatomical dissection or instruction.
* Understanding of radiographic imaging is preferred.
* Knowledge of, or experience using, Adobe programs for image management is helpful.
* Experience maintaining scientific records suitable to support publications and patent applications.
* Strong organizational skills.
* Experience in laboratory management, including but not limited to writing standard operating procedures, maintaining work schedules, ordering supplies, and managing inventories, is preferred.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to assess situations, anticipate alternate outcomes, and prepare appropriate responses.
* Ability to work independently, demonstrate self-motivation, and prioritize tasks effectively.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Maine Healthcare System (VA Maine) is seeking up to five (5) highly skilled Medical Technologists (MTs) to provide comprehensive onsite laboratory services for eligible Veterans. The contracted technologists will deliver services equivalent to those in a state-of-the-art civilian medical treatment facility, meeting or exceeding standards established by the Clinical & Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). The technologists will work in multiple areas of the laboratory based on operational needs, including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, blood bank, and phlebotomy.
Primary Responsibilities Key Responsibilities:General Duties:
Perform diagnostic laboratory testing across multiple departments:
Chemistry: Routine testing using Abbott Architect ci8200, Abbott Alinity, and manual methods
Urinalysis: Automated and manual testing, including QC and maintenance
Blood Bank: Crossmatching, antibody screening, cell panels, and emergency processing using gel and tube technology

Phlebotomy & Specimen Processing
Perform and document patient and quality control (QC) testing per protocols

Maintain patient privacy and safeguard protected health information (PHI)
