Role Description
Responsible for using clinical history and other patient information in arriving at the proper diagnosis for each cytologic specimen
Examine cytology specimens for the presence of abnormal cellular changes and pathogens
Sign out all negative gynecologic cases
Report other cytologic findings, such as the presence of microorganisms endocervical component
Evaluate and mark GYN (reactive and reparative, abnormal, questionable or negative)
Submit reactive and reparative, abnormal and questionable GYN cases to a pathologist for final evaluation
Record the results of each GYN slide read on the appropriate form/systems/etc. used in the laboratory, in a legible manner
Submit daily workload of negative GYN cases for a minimum of 10% quality control review (including random high-risk cases) by a supervisory qualified cytotechnologist.
Maintain appropriate records
Maintain compliance with workload limits
Maintain microscope in excellent working condition
Participate in continuing education in areas relating to Cytology
Qualifications
Proficiency in Laboratory Skills, including specimen preparation and cellular sample analysis
Strong knowledge of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Experience in implementing and maintaining Quality Control standards
Certification as a Cytotechnologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent
Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify cellular abnormalities

Responsibilities Include:
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results. Attention to detail is essential with these duties; labeling must be clear and legible
Perform chemiluminescent immunoassays on serum samples, using automated equipment. This includes calibrating; cleaning and maintaining the equipment as required by the manufacturer
Perform semen analyses, including sperm count, sperm motility, sperm morphology and viability. Perform routine sperm preps for inseminations, maintaining sterile technique throughout
Maintain records that demonstrate that PT samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies; document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed
Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance
Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results. Must correct the problems and/or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, and clinical consultant or laboratory director
Study and review laboratory operating manual and become familiar with quality assurance, quality control, safety procedures and operating guidelines for performing laboratory services
Study and review OSHA requirements for safe laboratory operation. Always wear appropriate lab personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain protective, safe laboratory environment
Participate in laboratory operations as directed
Attend laboratory meetings as requested
Participate in laboratory proficiency testing programs
Attend skill enhancement programs as directed by supervisor
From time-to-time, provide assistance and support to RMA of NY satellite laboratories as requested by Laboratory Manager

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem-Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing complex clinical laboratory tests on specimens for diagnostic purposes under minimal supervision.
Job Responsibilities:
Good computer skill
Performs laboratory tests and procedures, which require technical skill and an exercise of independent judgment with minimal supervision, and documents results to ensure compliance with Medical Center and regulatory requirements.
Applies sound technical judgment in evaluating problems and developing prompt, reasonable, workable alternatives, which benefit the patient within established guidelines of the department.
Handles varying workloads while maintaining accuracy.
Follows approved policies and procedures in performing specific methodologies and instrument operations and follows approved policies for proper recording (accuracy and legibility) and reporting of all results.
Calls Critical Values to nursing unit immediately upon their completion and records the name of person to whom the results were given as well as the time of the call.
Demonstrates sufficient knowledge or expertise in dealing with scientific principles involved in the methodology performed; as well as alternative methodologies and their application to a given situation.
Brings unresolved problems to the attention of a supervisor/assistant supervisor(s) and is prepared to report on the results of initial problem investigation and discuss possible causes and solutions by presenting factual and objective data.
Performs additional procedures as required to ensure the quality of the laboratory testing performed; and documents this activity.
Performs and records periodic quality control analysis, instrument function checks and preventive maintenance procedures following approved policy.
Correlates final patient result with known facts concerning the patient's' history (previous results) to determine goodness of fit and recognized illogical results.
Follows approved guidelines in approaches to problem solving and devises appropriate courses of action when patient results, control values and instrument function parameters are inconsistent or invalid: including investigation of possible sources of variance/interference, by taking appropriate action and/or performing additional testing as necessary to assure the accuracy of the reported patient value. Maintains sufficient working supplies in order to assure the continued integrity of workstation operations.
Maintains up-to-date pending logs to ensure that all specimens have been processed accordingly.
Performs and documents preventive maintenance procedures and instrument function checks.
Performs preventive maintenance procedures at each workstation as required.
Documents all maintenance performed, both scheduled and unscheduled.
Documents all required information in the appropriate section of the instrument problem log.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
NYSDOH Licensed as a Certified Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a program registered by the NYS Department of Education or Bachelor's Degree in the major of biology, chemistry or physical sciences from an accredited college or university or education requirement grandfathered by the NYSOP.
One year experience in a clinical laboratory (completion of an internship at a qualified institution is acceptable).
Effective Interpersonal Communication skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years as a generalist.
Proficient computer skills.
ASCP registry preferred.
Multitasking abilities and flexibility are a plus.

Location: Iraq
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible to provide comprehensive health services to DOS, DOD, and contractor personnel stationed in Iraq. The MLT performs lab tests and procedures, mostly comprising of microscopic, bacteriological, hematologic, immunologic, and chemical diagnostic analyses on samples of tissue, blood, urine, stool, synovial fluid and semen. The MLT looks for clues to the absence, presence, and extent of the causes and progression of diseases through accurate and efficient lab tests.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect and process biological specimens for laboratory testing.
Conduct routine and specialized tests in hematology, microbiology, chemistry, and blood bank.
Maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot any technical issues.
Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean laboratory environment.

Must Have Core Lab experience with a BS OR master's in chemistry/biology or other Qualifying Field
Requirements:
Valid license to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist issued by NYSED, Primary Source Verification required. BLS preferred.
