Community Hematology Oncology provides comprehensive medical care in a community setting for adults coping with a diagnosis of cancer or serious blood disorders. The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) provides technical support in the OHSU Community Oncology Laboratory to complete laboratory testing for clinic patients. The MLS performs Hematology, Chemistry and Urinalysis testing. The position requires monitoring and interpretation of all quality control systems. The incumbent is responsible for both routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. Community Hematology Oncology provides appropriate age care to the age groups that are indicated. Recognizes Critical Value results and immediately responds by notifying the appropriate provider. Instrument Maintence: Calibrates and performs routine maintenance on analytic analyzers. Uses problem solving skills to troubleshoot when indicated by patient or quality control results. Computer Skills: Performs required work using computer programs: EPIC, Word, Excel, Portal, E-chart, and basic navigation of Community Hematology Oncology computer files. Quailty Control: Performs all quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) tasks. This includes, but is not limited to daily analyzer controls, instrument function checks, Proficiency Testing, documentation of QA issues involving both patients and/or instrument problems. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Science which includes a clinical lab externship, and current certification as MT (ASCP), or MLS (ASCP) within 90 days of hire. Current certification and credential maintenance must be maintained for individuals who were certified after January 1, 2004. OR Completion of a 2 year accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program, plus MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification within 90 days of hire, and 4 years of experience in a clinical laboratory. Certification as MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) or by AMT preferred. Current certification and credential maintenance must be maintained for individuals who were certified after January 1, 2004. Medical Lab Scientist or Technician, Full Time, 40 hrs./week, Rotating Schedule, Shared Call. Non-Exempt, Hourly, benefited position, coverage eligibility will begin 1st of the month following date of hire. Conduct routine and complex laboratory diagnostic tests and procedures. Collect, test, and store blood; maintain blood bank records; perform blood bank procedures. Perform and observe chemical tests on patient's specimens and record all results. Use and maintain all laboratory equipment. Receive blood specimens, perform blood tests and study morphology of blood components. Perform bacteriological tests on body fluids, exudates, skin scrapings and surgical specimens. Perform immunological and serological test on body fluids and other specimens. Document all test results. Perform venipunctures and skin punctures based on thorough knowledge of test requirements; assist in clinical laboratory sample reference preparation. Remain current on State and Federal regulations related to position and duties. Follow all protocols regarding safety precautions as defined by facility policy and OSHA regulations. Study blood samples for use in transfusions by identifying the number of cells, the cell morphology or the blood group, blood type, and compatibility with other blood types. Operate sophisticated laboratory equipment, such as microscopes and cell counters. Discuss results and findings of laboratory tests and procedures with physicians. Participate in shared on-call rotation outside of normal staffing hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays. Exposure to infectious specimens/potential infections via patient contact during specimen collection. Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or closely related field in the sciences (foreign equivalent accepted). Experience: Six months' experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Lab Technologist, or similar position. Skills/Requirements: 6 months' experience working with hematology, chemistry, immunohematology, immunology, microbiology, and toxicology departments; 6 months' experience performing complex laboratory diagnostic tests on blood and body fluids in a laboratory setting; 6 months' experience performing venipunctures and skin punctures based on thorough knowledge of test requirements; 6 months' experience assisting in clinical laboratory sample reference preparation, and ASCP certification. Job DescriptionMorrow County Health District is seeking a full-time experienced Clinical Laboratory Generalist who meets CLIA ‘88 requirements for testing personnel with at least an Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science and holds a current national accredited license. Experience in Blood Banking, Hematology/UA, Coagulation,Chemistry, Phlebotomy, and Quality Control are required. Job Details: Under the general direction of the Outpatient Services Director, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for making sure the preparation of specimens for tests, collection of blood, examination of blood samples, and other duties performed are being done in accordance to all policies and procedures. The Laboratory Technician is required to share 24-hour on-call responsibilities. ASCP preferred. Must be a team player with excellent positive communication skills. Occasional part-time variable hours. Wage $38.00/hour including evening/weekend call coverage.
