FULL JOB DESCRIPTION Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Lab Technician Our lab conducts a full range of laboratory tests in chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, serology, molecular biology, and urinalysis on clinical specimens to provide the information necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. ESSENTIAL RESPONISIBLIES: Perform and report lab tests in accordance with laboratory policies, procedures, and quality standards: Process patient specimens according to priority and report results to the LIS. Review patient test data in LIS for accuracy before release to the patient's record. Alert clinicians or other appropriate designees of abnormal/critical laboratory results in a timely and professional fashion. Monitor test accuracy through performance and evaluation of quality controls: Perform instrument maintenance, calibration, and quality control according to standard operating procedures, if required. Understand and have the ability to pass competencies for all required quality control and proficiency testing materials. Troubleshoot any malfunctioning equipment or test system and repair if possible. Execute corrective actions for instrumentation or testing errors and document if controls are not within specified limits. Audit specimen integrity and identification to ensure that specimens are appropriate for the desired testing. Reject specimens and request redraws as required for inadequate or unacceptable specimens Identify test discrepancies and address any issues that could lead to testing discrepancies. Investigate or initiate sample or result inquiries when requested by providers Refer problems to a specialist, supervisor, manager, or medical director as needed. Answer phone inquiries about department policies, procedures and testing criteria. Maintain clean and well-organized work area with adequate supplies and reagents. Track, prepare and alert technical supervisor/manager to low volumes of reagents and supplies when necessary. Maintain technical and professional certifications. Attend all required training, education, and meetings. EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: A copy of academic degrees or official transcripts and current certifications will be required before hire Minimally must meet current qualifications listed under section "Clinical Laboratory Personnel Requirements" defined in the federal Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Act of 1988 (CLIA-88) and Oregon Department of Human Services Regulations, College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Joint Commission standards.
