Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist at our facility you will be an integral part of our Laboratory team. We are a highly functioning team that supports many different departments and has a passion for providing the best patient care through compassionate, professional interactions and reliable testing. In this role:
You will be responsible for receiving blood specimens, performing blood tests, and studying the morphology of the components of blood.
You will perform various routine or special clinical laboratory tests in one or more sections of the Laboratory using automated equipment, manual testing, and microscopic analysis to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
You will be responsible for maintaining and using various equipment in the Laboratory including automated, chemistry analyzers, ion-specific electrodes, osmometers, and other analyzers.
You will perform antibody screening, antibody identification, and cross-matching procedures required in the administration of blood/blood components and identify antibodies in donors or patients blood that could react adversely during transfusion.
You will notify nursing units and/or physicians of critical lab values.
You will implement new testing methods, products, and instrumentation as appropriate to keep department current with technology.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Medical Technology program (Associates degree acceptable) and/or a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology with appropriate certification (may be hired prior to graduation upon completion of required course work for graduation).
Nationally recognized certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS or MLT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent.
This licensure must be completed within 1 year of hire.
One year of experience working in a hospital or other clinical laboratory setting is preferred; new graduates will be considered.
American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification.

Primary Purpose:
Provides services of both a technical and non-technical nature in the laboratory service areas. Essential Functions:
Performs waived, moderate, and/or highly complex analytic processes without direct supervision for which they are qualified, trained, and demonstrate competency according to established lab standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Operates, calibrates and troubleshoots laboratory instruments and ensures proper functioning of laboratory equipment. Recognizes when professional service is required and requests service if instrument is covered under a service contract. Otherwise, reports service needs to supervisor for resolution.
Performs quality control (QC) procedures as specified in lab section SOPs and maintains QC records and documentation necessary to meet the standards of accrediting agencies.
Follows appropriate specimen collection, handling, transport, and recording procedures.
Processes data, verifies accuracy, and enters data in the laboratory information system, along with appropriate explanatory or interpretive information in a timely manner.
Monitors QC and assists in data collection for Quality Assurance (QA) indicators, as assigned.
Performs internal and external proficiency testing.
Meets output measures as defined by individual group policy. Assists with workload in any section where competency has been verified and is current.
Recognizes critical patient results and follows the defined process for reporting them.
Recognizes unexpected results, errors, and problems with patient tests and escalates as required.
Understands the theory of laboratory procedures and evaluates all potential causes of unexpected test results.
Correlates clinical and laboratory data with pathologic states to determine result validity.

We are currently seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join our diverse and dynamic team. As a Laboratory Assistant at ICON, you will provide essential support to laboratory operations by assisting with the preparation, organization, and maintenance of laboratory samples and equipment. What You Will Be Doing:
Assisting with the preparation of laboratory samples and reagents according to established protocols and procedures.
Maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring cleanliness and proper functioning at all times.
Documenting and tracking sample information, including labeling, storage, and retrieval of samples as needed.
Supporting laboratory staff in conducting tests and analyses by providing timely assistance and preparation of materials.
Participating in maintaining a safe and compliant laboratory environment, following all safety protocols and guidelines.
Your Profile:
High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in a relevant field preferred.
0-2 years of experience in a laboratory or related environment, with a strong willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Good communication and teamwork abilities, with a proactive approach to supporting laboratory operations.
Basic familiarity with laboratory equipment and techniques is a plus.

About the Role
At Techcyte, we are building SaaS solutions for microscopy testing using artificial intelligence (AI), including computer vision and deep machine learning. Lab Techs are a critical part of our day-to-day operation in our lab and assist engineering & product management with laboratory support to develop world-class machine-learning products for medical, environmental, and veterinary markets.
This position is at the Orem, UT laboratory so the candidate needs to live close enough to Orem to commute. This position is part-time and the candidate would work 2 days per week.. Shifts are Tuesday and Thursday, 9am-5pm. The candidate will primarily focus on Techcyte's Environmental vertical, working to prepare and process air quality samples for home inspectors.
Responsibilities
Receive samples from clients and perform data entry tasks
Prepare biological samples onto microscope slides
Digitize microscope slides with various whole slide scanners
Configuring scanners and software to perform optimally
Qualifications
Strong attention to detail, especially with repetitive tasks
Good organization and record-keeping skills
Must be able to commute to the office in Orem, Utah
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Must be able to work collaboratively within a team and across disciplines
