Duties and Responsibilities:
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test result;
Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens;
Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures (see department SOPs).
Review and release test results.
Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as described in their respective guidelines.
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and all maintenance performed;
Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, correct the problems encountered or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
Follow department's procedure in reporting STATS or Critical results to clients.

Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation). Work Experience:

Accurately examines surgical biopsy specimens, enters specimens into Laboratory Information System (LIS), and maintains supplies and instruments within Anatomic Pathology. Responsibilities:

Examine and prepare surgical biopsy specimens for microscopic evaluation by providing gross description of each case as defined by the Surgical Pathology Manual while maintaining accurate records of all activities.

****Company :**** Allegheny Health Network**** :**** Performs routine and highly complex laboratory analyses on clinical specimens in various sections of the laboratory under supervision. **ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:**
* Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information. Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity and linearity for test methods. (50%)
* Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation. Recognizes problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information. (30%)
* Participates in programs to keep updated with current and changing technologies. (5%)
* May collect and process patient specimens in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures and within the expected time frames. (5%)
* Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations. (5%)
* May mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy, and lab processor students and new employees in laboratory testing following AHN policies and procedures. (5%)
* Performs other duties as assigned or required.
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
Minimum
* Associates degree in ASCP eligible program or equivalent. Meet ongoing education requirements for certification.
Preferred
* Clinical laboratory experience.
* Medical Laboratory Technician or equivalent

The MLT is responsible for accurately processing, analyzing and reporting laboratory results in a timely manner with minimal supervision, while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards. The technician comprehends and follows procedural guidelines in performance of laboratory tests to include (1) quality control monitoring; (2) computer applications; (3) instrumentation troubleshooting; and (4) specimen collection and processing requirements.
The MT will exercise professional judgment in the performance and interpretation of laboratory tests while following established procedures, maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards. Able to assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor. The technologist is capable of performing and interpreting standard, complex, and specialized tests. The technologist has an understanding of quality assurance sufficient to implement and monitor quality control programs.
Qualifications for the MLT candidate:
Required: Associate degree from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician Program or related field. OR already functioning as a MLT within HVHS (Grandfathered) as of June 2004. Preferred: MLT (ASCP) certification
Qualifications for the MT candidate:
Required: MT /MLS with preferred ASCP certification or BS degree in biological science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience; and ASCP certification. OR Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) through HEW OR Already functioning as an MT within HVHS (Grandfathered) as of June 2004.
