Summary:
The Cath Lab Technologist is responsible for assisting in diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab. The technologist operates specialized imaging equipment, maintains sterile technique, and collaborates with the healthcare team to provide high-quality patient care. This position requires technical expertise in cardiovascular procedures, critical thinking skills, and the ability to work efficiently in high-pressure situations.
Essential Work Functions:
Prepare and position patients for cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, stent placement, electrophysiology studies, and other interventional procedures
Assist physicians during procedures by passing catheters, wires, balloons, and stents, and operating fluoroscopy and hemodynamic monitoring equipment
Operate and maintain imaging equipment, contrast injectors, and hemodynamic monitoring systems, ensuring proper functionality
Scrub in and assist with sterile field setup, ensuring adherence to infection control and procedural protocols
Perform sheath removal and hemostasis using manual compression or closure devices as directed
Maintain accurate documentation, including patient records, imaging data, and equipment logs
Assist with inventory management, stocking supplies, and ensuring proper storage of sterile instruments and medications
Adhere to radiation safety protocols, ensuring proper use of lead aprons, shields, and dosimeters
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements
Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice

Collects, receives, and transports blood and other specimens from clinic patients following accepted standards of practice.
Implements and monitors laboratory inventory and control program. Responsible for resource utilization (supplies and equipment) in department.
Responsible for training of new employees or co-workers on new equipment/procedures as applicable. Assists in student clinical rotation programs.
Researches, suggests, evaluates, and implements new tests and updates current tests. Attends educational training for new skills, technology or knowledge applicable to the laboratory and throughout the clinic to maintain quality testing and infrastructure flow.
Actively participates in quality assurance program. Recommends corrective action for problems identified. Reviews policies and reads procedures as scheduled. Assists in the preparation for inspection and participation during inspection.

Responsibilities

Qualifications
Associate's degree in cardiovascular technology or equivalent experience is required.

Essential Functions:
Collects and prepares biological specimens for analyses using appropriate techniques and maintains the integrity of the specimen in relation to the test being performed.
Determines acceptability of specimens within established guidelines, avoiding hemolysis, QNS, and wrong anticoagulant use.
Ensures equipment is functioning properly by performing or delegating performance of function checks, preventative maintenance and quality control. Documents actions.
Performs test analysis and reports test results in a timely manner meeting the expectations of physicians.
Assures initial calibration and standardization, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting for malfunction on instruments used in POC testing.
Conducts ongoing evaluation of functions and programs of the Laboratory relative to accreditation standards and recommends procedural changes.
Implements and monitors a Quality Assurance program to ensure the reliability of all technical services offered to meet internal and external regulations.
Maintains competency and enhances professional growth and development through education, conferences and seminars.

Essential Functions:
Before the patient arrives in the room, prepares the procedure tray according to the Physician's preference and following sterile technique.
Consistently and Positively works as a team member, helps coordinates the days schedule with all staff members in the lab to efficiently finish the days work load. Is accountable at work and completes the necessary training to safely work and troubleshoot technical equipment.
Ensures the procedure and related supplies are billed correctly.
Examines requisition for appropriate orders, exam date, indication for exam. Reprints corrected requisition.
Maintains knowledge of updates relating to supply stock, equipment, and procedural processes as they present themselves from Physicians and vendors.
Monitors, records, and documents procedure data with related paperwork: pressure tracings, EKG, and other procedural data. Documents and charges supplies with accuracy per use for each case involved.
Participates in quality control/performance improvement in Cardiac Cath lab/Ep as evidenced by report logs.
Establishes, maintains, and monitors the surgical environment to ensure that the potential for infection is reduced by proper sterilization, decontamination, and disinfection procedures.
Provides for the delivery of patient care based on individual needs through the collection of health data and ongoing patient assessment with identification of problems and needs.
Works cooperatively in assigned room to complete procedures and prepares for next case with minimal turnover time, as evidenced by observation of the surgical team. Promotes cooperative and efficient operation of the department (i.e., follows chain of command, cost containment, quiet environment), as evidenced by observation and feedback.

Job Summary
Performs a variety of general and specific laboratory duties in each laboratory section including but not limited to Phlebotomy, Urinalysis, Hematology, Chemistry, Special Chemistry, Blood Bank, Serology, and Microbiology. Reviews and monitors the performance of quality control, preventive maintenance and laboratory reports in area assigned. Summary:

Essential Work Functions:
Prepare and position patients for cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, stent placement, electrophysiology studies, and other interventional procedures
Assist physicians during procedures by passing catheters, wires, balloons, and stents, and operating fluoroscopy and hemodynamic monitoring equipment
Operate and maintain imaging equipment, contrast injectors, and hemodynamic monitoring systems, ensuring proper functionality
Scrub in and assist with sterile field setup, ensuring adherence to infection control and procedural protocols
Perform sheath removal and hemostasis using manual compression or closure devices as directed
Maintain accurate documentation, including patient records, imaging data, and equipment logs
