The Metrology Lab Technician will provide technical and administrative support to the Metrology team while collaborating closely with Quality Control (QC) and Analytical Development (AD) laboratories. This individual will be responsible for coordinating equipment calibration and maintenance activities, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring compliance with documentation and scheduling requirements. The ideal candidate will have prior laboratory experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively across teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform and coordinate calibration, maintenance, and verification activities for laboratory instruments and equipment.
Schedule and manage external suppliers and service providers, including coordinating on-site visits, obtaining quotes, and ensuring timely contract renewals.
Maintain and update equipment records, calibration schedules, and documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Lead and support all administrative functions for the Metrology team, including documentation, tracking, reporting, and data organization.
Collaborate with QC, AD, and Metrology teams to ensure equipment readiness, minimize downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Track and manage calibration and service schedules using Smartsheet, Excel, and other data management tools.
Assist in audits and compliance reviews by maintaining accurate, up-to-date documentation.
Support troubleshooting efforts and vendor communications for metrology-related issues.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a scientific or technical discipline preferred.
Previous Quality Control (QC) or Analytical Development (AD) laboratory environment is preferred.
Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation, calibration, and maintenance processes.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Smartsheet.
Strong organizational, scheduling, and administrative skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and collaborate effectively across departments.
Experience coordinating with external suppliers or service vendors is a plus.
Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) preferred.

Basic Requirement for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist:
A. A Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from a regionally accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics, AND successful completion of a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

B. At least a full 4-year course of study that included 12 months in a college or hospital-based medical technology program or medical technology school approved by a recognized accrediting organization. The professional medical technology curriculum may have consisted of a 1-year post- bachelor's certificate program or the last 1 or 2 years of a 4-year program of study culminating in a bachelor's in medical technology.
OR
C. A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from an accredited college/university that included 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, AND Five years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids. This combination of education and experience must have provided knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of medical technology equivalent to that provided by the full 4-year course of study described in A or B above. All science and mathematics courses must have been acceptable for credit toward meeting the requirements for a science major at an accredited college or university. Acceptable experience is responsible professional or technician experience in a hospital laboratory, health agency, industrial medical laboratory, or pharmaceutical house; or teaching, test development, or medical research program experience that provided an understanding of the methods and techniques applied in performing professional clinical laboratory work. Certification/licensure as a medical technologist (generalist) obtained through written examination by a nationally recognized credentialing agency or State licensing body is a good indication that the quality of experience is acceptable.
Evaluation of Education and Experience: The four major areas of clinical laboratory science are microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, and immunohematology (blood banking). Qualifying course work in these areas includes bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, tissue culture, virology, parasitology, endocrinology, enzymology, toxicology, urinalysis, coagulation, hemostasis, cell morphology, immunology, serology, immunoserology, immuno-deficiency, hemolysis, histocompatibility, cyto-genetics, and similar disciplines or areas of laboratory practice.
Related fields include physiology, anatomy, molecular biology, cell biology, embryology, pathology, genetics, pharmacology, histology, cytology, nuclear medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, infection control, physics, statistics, and similar areas of science where the work is directly related to the position to be filled.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0644 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing various tests and measurements in a clinical laboratory and calibrating or maintaining clinical laboratory instruments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Essential Job Function
* Performs all processes associated with testing of laboratory specimens, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
* Conducts quality control and assurance activities to maintain accuracy in specimen testing and reporting for effective diagnosis and treatment.
* Maintains and troubleshoots complex instrumentation and test systems, documenting corrective actions prior to releasing testing results to contribute to reliable test outcomes.
* Prioritizes duties and manages workload to meet established laboratory turnaround times for efficient patient care and treatment decisions.
* Stays updated on annual competencies, continuing education assignments, and regulatory standards, ensuring compliance with safety and compliance policies and procedures.
* Practices efficient use of supplies and actively participate in inventory control to maintain a cost-effective and well-equipped laboratory.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
* Required: Associate's Degree in medical laboratory technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science.
Experience
* Preferred: 1 year working as a technologist in a hospital or similar physician office laboratory
Licensure/Certification/Listing
* Required: Must have Medical Laboratory Technician certification in one of the following certifications upon hire:- Medical Laboratory Technician with ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or Medical Laboratory Technician with AMT (American Medical Technologists)

Assist in the delivery of quality healthcare including patient care management throughout the medical group. Providing support to outpatient practices with direct patient care.
Education and Formal Training:
High school diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following:
Graduation from an Associate Degree program for Medical Assistants. Certificates accepted: CMA, CCMA, or RMA
Graduation/satisfactory completion from a state approved nursing assistant I or II program and current CNA certification in NC
Current NC EMT certification
Current valid certification to practice as a Paramedic in the State of North Carolina
BCLS certification
Work Experience: 1 year of experience in health care preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill people; uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgement, and a professional attitude when relating with patients, families, and co-workers at all times. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed. Skill in taking vital signs. Skill in maintaining records and recording test results. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, co-workers and the public. Ability to communicate clearly. Must develop knowledge of current hospital emergency policies and procedures, fire, safety, disaster, and infection control policies.

Job Summary
Under general supervision, Performs and reports routine and special laboratory tests on clinical specimens to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients.
Essential Functions
* Performs analyses in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank and microbiology according to expected performance standards.
* Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick on identified patients by physician's request in a timely, accurate and caring manner.
* Keeps documented records current regarding maintenance and quality control.
* Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results
* Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens
* Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed
* Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director
* Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance
* Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
* Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
* Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety, quality control, and specimen handling guidelines and procedures.
* Skilled in using applicable laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, meters, microscopes, incubators, pipettes, autoclaves, and sterilizers.
* Ability to work quickly and accurately when under strict deadlines.
* Considerable knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical laboratory methods and instrumentation. Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, laboratory medicine, disease processes, and laboratory procedures.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient and/or employee information to assure patient and/or employee rights are protected.
* Must read, write and speak fluent English.
* Must have good and regular attendance.

Qualifications
Education
* Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
Licenses/Certifications
* Current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required.

* Current BLS preferred.
Experience
* 1-2 years acute care hospital lab experience in high complexity testing preferred.
