This position will primarily cover the following locations: Nokomis, St. Louis Park West End, Brooklyn Center, Coon Rapids, Arden Hills, White Bear Lake, Como, Maplewood, Health Center for Women, Midway and St. Paul. May also work at other locations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Associate's degree in a lab science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or graduate from a 12-month approved school for Certified Laboratory Assistants and eligible to be certified. Documentation of experiences performing high complexity testing prior to 9/1/92.
Certification by an agency approved by the ASCP Board of Certification or AMT. If not currently certified must register for certification with 45 days of hire and must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
Qualified to work in a highly complex laboratory as mandated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA).
Promote teamwork through demonstration of a courteous and cooperative attitude to all customers.
PREFERRED:
Six months of related medical training or experience.
Typing or keyboard skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must possess speech, hearing and sight skills to perform the functions of the position. Manual dexterity is required. Must be able to speak, read and write English proficiently. Some lifting may be required.

Job Description
Location: Iraq
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible to provide comprehensive health services to DOS, DOD, and contractor personnel stationed in Iraq. The MLT performs lab tests and procedures, mostly comprising of microscopic, bacteriological, hematologic, immunologic, and chemical diagnostic analyses on samples of tissue, blood, urine, stool, synovial fluid and semen. The MLT looks for clues to the absence, presence, and extent of the causes and progression of diseases through accurate and efficient lab tests.
Key Responsibilities:
Collect and process biological specimens for laboratory testing.
Conduct routine and specialized tests in hematology, microbiology, chemistry, and blood bank.
Maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot any technical issues.
Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean laboratory environment.
Record and report test results accurately and in a timely manner.
Collaborate with pathologists and other medical staff to interpret results and ensure quality patient care.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Actively participates in Mass Casualty exercises and events.

Basic Requirements/Certifications:

In this role, you will:
This position outlines the responsibilities and requirements for a histology Lab Assistant, focusing on the embedding area. Upon completing the technical training program, both the Supervisor and Laboratory Director will assess the Histology Lab Assistant's performance quality and standards. Following this assessment, a competency assessment plan will be executed.
The Histology Lab Assistant will be responsible for preparing sections of human tissue from surgical procedures for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis. This includes using the technique of embedding to properly orient specimens in paraffin blocks.
Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist.
May label requisitions, specimen containers, cassettes and/or slides and affixes coverslip to slides.
Maintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance and quality controls performed,

Knowledge of CLIA regulations regarding proficiency testing, quality assurance and quality control.
Knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures, equipment, and testing to monitor control checks.

Interacts and communicates with patients, their families, and members of the healthcare team by using various communication tools in a timely and professional manner RESPONSIBILITIES:Ambulatory (Community Clinics/CSC) Assists in maintaining supplies and helping with inventory Assists with training of new staff members and students Performs standard procedures for the collection of laboratory samples including but not limited to: Patient identification Venipuncture collection Capillary collection Urine collection Documentation of collection in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) Reviews and releases patient laboratory orders in the electronic health record (EHR) Reviews, orders, and collects patient laboratory orders from an outside facility according to standard operating procedures Properly processes and distributes specimens following collection Explains collection processes and procedures to patients, customers, and their families Prepares specimens for send out to reference laboratory (HHS Main Campus), including properly labeling, aliquoting of specimens, and any associated LIS documentation (transfer lists) Prepares, performs, and documents select testing according to standard operating procedures for which they have received applicable training and supervisor approval to perform QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Qualifications:High school diploma or GED -OR-An approved equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred Qualifications:Certified or certified-eligible with a nationally accredited phlebotomy association -OR-Completion of ten quarter credits of biology or chemistry college courses -OR-Six Months of experience in a clinical laboratory setting Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:Customer Service skills You've made the right choice in considering Hennepin Healthcare for your employment.
