Adheres to the clinical laboratory's quality control policies, documents all quality control activities instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results. Documents all corrective action taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications. Performs all routine and new test procedures that are complex and require professional judgment when assigned to a specific area. Demonstrates knowledge of theory behind the test performed. Recognized departure from the norm on adult and geriatric patients and be able to understand the scientific and theoretical reasons for such deviation. Calibrates instruments and assess the accuracy of the equipment; performs equipment preventive and corrective maintenance. Check and verify all the test results released by the laboratory. This includes accepting or rejecting results due to delta check inconsistencies, requesting redraw for verification, canceling results due to gross hemolysis, clots or QNS. Reviews outgoing reports for technical and clerical errors. Able to communicate with nurses and physicians, and ability to work well with others. Assist in maintaining adequate supplies and inventory levels. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize work duties. Recognizes the administrative changes in staffing and scheduling and adapt to these changes. Assists in developing and installing quality control standards to ensure accuracy of test results. Initiates, suggests and if necessary, implements technical and administrative changes upon approval of the Laboratory Director. SUMMARY Performs routine laboratory tests under close supervision to determine chemical or physical characteristics designated by clients. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES * Read and understand all analysis and safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory. * Assist senior laboratory personnel in setting up, adjusting and operating laboratory equipment for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice. * Assist in or perform basic analytical tests from well-defined standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager. Laboratory technicians must be verified to be able to perform all tests in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice. * Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment. * Assist in calibrating laboratory instruments for which the technician has been adequately trained and has been verified to operate correctly in accordance with applicable standards and sound laboratory practice. * Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas. * Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in Laboratory Manual #5, Safety Manual #7, and the Core Laboratories Safety and Environmental Manual, and company policies. * Attend training and pass appropriate examinations in petroleum, chemical and gas analysis, including Right-to-Know training, hazardous materials disposal, and other safety and compliance training required by applicable regulations. * Understand and be able to complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into laboratory computer programs. QUALIFICATIONS * High school diploma or equivalent is required. * Bachelor's degree preferred. * Three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
