Teaching responsibilities include hematology, immunology, phlebotomy, microbiology, urinalysis, blood banking, and chemistry as they relate to processing samples for diagnosis. The successful candidate will collaborate with other faculty in the School of Healthcare and carry out functions related to the position described. The candidate will collaborate with advising and other student services to support student success best. The successful candidate will also work collaboratively as an active participant in our shared governance processes.

* The salary for this position is a per-credit rate. The current rate is $1000 per credit. Duty: Provide classroom and lab instruction utilizing a variety of teaching techniques to prepare students for employment in the manufacturing industry.
Tasks include:
* Create, implement, and modify curriculum as required to meet learning outcomes.
* Maintain and manage classroom environment, equipment, tools, and supplies.
* Create and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism and mutual respect with students.
* Utilize online learning management system and incorporate multiple modalities into curriculum planning.
* Maintain a safe environment through instruction, policy, and continuous evaluation of program equipment and laboratory space.
* Provide career guidance and job placement assistance.
* Assess and provide feedback on student competencies as established by industry standards.
* Maintain accurate student progress records updated in a timely manner and assess and provide feedback on student learning.
* Submit student grades in a timely manner.
* Coordinate teaching and clinical education
* Supervise applied laboratory learning experience 12. Other duties as assigned
Duty: Program and College support

* Actively participate on college committees.

Duty: General program effectiveness
Tasks include:
* Responsible for organization, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum development/update, planning, directing other program faculty/staff, and program development.
* Submit grades, book orders and other necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
* Actively participate and maintain a productive and professional relationship with the program's Advisory Committee.
* Use sound judgement with respect to instructional materials and equipment procurement and use
* Bachelor's degree- with the ability to obtain either a master's or doctoral degree within 3 years of hire.
* American Society of Clinical Pathology - Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
* A minimum of three years of work experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist.
* Three years' teaching experience. 1 years of bench work which includes training can be substituted for each year of teaching experience.
* Experience in educational methods and administration as well as current NAACLSS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.
* Minimum of thirty-six hours of continuing education in the past three years.

Who we're looking for: The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Trainee/1 with the Microbiology Team at the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake.
The MLS Trainee/1 plays a key role in improving the health of our patients by reporting pathogens and susceptibility information to providers by using many of the latest methods for identification and susceptibility testing.
Work schedule:
* 100% FTE
* Monday - Friday with rotating weekends and holidays

What you'll contribute:
* Perform various tests for the identification of bacteria, yeast, mold and parasites on the routine benches per laboratory protocols. Perform susceptibility tests (disk diffusion, E-test, MIC and other methods as required) on pathogens per laboratory protocols.
* Prepare, evaluate, and report direct smears, including but not limited, to Gram stains, KOH preps, Pneumocystis DFA stains, Auramine-O stains, Kinyoun stains and Wright/Giemsa.
* Perform various serological procedures including PCR, EIA and latex agglutinations.
* Rotate and maintain competency in all sections where trained.
* Understand and operate a variety of laboratory equipment (i.e. automated blood culture system, mass spectrometry instrument, automated susceptibility system, Verigene, BioFire, Cepheid Gene Xpert, microscopes, biological safety cabinet and anoxomat) and perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting.
* Exhibit a working knowledge of the laboratory information system software and teach it to others.
* Understand quality control requirements and follow policies to validate results.
* Work independently to manage average workloads and know when to request assistance in case of heavier workloads.
* Perform work accurately and precisely and recognizes, corrects and documents errors when they occur.
* Interact with health care providers in a professional manner.
* Know what results are critical or reportable and follow the policies and procedures for reporting them to appropriate medical staff, epidemiology or Public Health Laboratory.
* Assist with the evaluation of new tests/equipment and research projects as required.
* Instruct new employees, medical laboratory scientist students, medical students, residents and fellows in routine procedures.
* Participate in continuing education and maintain certification by attending DLMP seminars, in services, staff meetings and/or by reading scientific journals and participating in CAP proficiency surveys.
What you'll need:
Requirements for an MLS Trainee:
* Accredited bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR equivalent education/experience AND
* Eligible to take the Medical Laboratory Scientist or categorical certification examination from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 18 months from date of hire. Failure to attain the certification within 18 months of date of hire may result in a recommendation for termination.
Requirements for an MLS 1:
* Accredited bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR equivalent education/experience AND

Compensation and Benefits
Employees (and their families) who work full time (defined as working 30 or more hours per week) will be eligible for medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, accidental death and dismemberment, and basic life insurance.
In addition, employees are able to enroll in our company's 401(k) plan which includes a company provided safe harbor contribution of 3% of annual earnings and the potential for a company discretionary profit-sharing contribution.
All employees will be eligible to accrue PTO at a rate of .04 hours per payroll hour (1.6 hours for a 40-hour week) which can be used for and exceeds the required mandatory WA State and other local ordinances. In addition, full time employees will be eligible for a Vacation accrual with a maximum annual accrual of 77 hours as a new hire. WAGI has 8 standard Holidays each year for which full time employees are eligible to receive paid holiday. Position Overview
The Clinical Lab Technologist position will be responsible for processing medically relevant biological samples through extraction and/or high throughput next-generation DNA sequencing assays. This role will work within a team of Laboratorians in a fast-paced, high production setting to process research and clinical diagnostic samples to provide test results to patients, oncologists and other medical practitioners and researchers. Provide training and/or direction as applicable to supporting government employees (e.g., hospital corpsmen, students, etc.).
Operate and manipulate automated systems such as CHCS, AHLTA, ADS, Essentris, and Clinical Information System (CIS), participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions, as prescribed by the Commander.
The HealthCare Worker (HCW) shall comply with the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) privacy and security policies of the treatment facility. Providers shall obtain/maintain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) in accordance with DOD and MTF
policy/instruction, as applicable. **************************
Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required. All records and reports must be legible. Abbreviations must be only those listed in local instructions.
Adhere to and comply with the Department of the Navy, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, and local instructions and notices in effect during the term of the contract.
Practice aseptic techniques as necessary; comply with infection control guidelines to include the proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious wastes, and the use of universal precautions to prevent the spread of infection.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Function with an awareness and application of safety procedures.
Apply an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk manner.
Exercise awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights, as identified within the MTF.
Exercise appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and
clinic activities.
Be able to comply with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, Department of Defense, Department of Navy, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, and MTF instructions and policies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Possess and maintain one of the following: A current certification and registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (MLT-ASCP); OR current certification and registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the American
Medical Technologists (MLT-AMT).
HCW shall be in good standing and under no sanction or suspension by the Federal Government.
Possess and maintain current certification in either the American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers or American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course.
Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently and maintain good communication skills with patients and other health care personnel.
Ability to pass all background/suitability checks.
A valid driver's license: ability to travel locally as needed.
Min. Citizenship Status Required: U.S Citizenship.
