The ChristianaCare Microbiology Laboratory located on the Newark campus, is currently recruiting for a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technician. This position is Day Shift, Monday - Friday, 7:30AM - 4:00PM. Every third weekend and 2-3 holidays per year required.
The position also requires a periodic rotation to the Microbiology Lab at Wilmington
Responsibilities:
• Accurately performs all test procedures as listed in the procedure manual.
• Performs and records all scheduled instrument preventative maintenance procedures.
• Follows established quality control procedures, documenting corrective action if necessary.
• Adheres to all turnaround times, documents calls as necessary, verifies critical values and specimen identification.
• Verifies completion of all stat results and all routine results in a timely manner.
• Records workload and other statistics into computer system as necessary.
• Performs assigned work safely adhering to established department safety rules and practices.
• Performs other related duties as instructed.
Requirements:
BS in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science
BS in a chemical, physical, biological science
AAS in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science
ASCP eligible or equivalent
Knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and procedures
Knowledge of infection control techniques and procedures
Ability to coordinate simultaneous tests and procedures with accuracy
Skill in the use of automated laboratory equipment

In this critical role, you will assist Cardiologists with a variety of diagnostic and interventional procedures, including cardiac catheterizations, Swan-Ganz catheterizations, pacemaker insertions, TEE/CV, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) support, and Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI). You will also play a vital role in administering moderate sedation and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the procedures.
As a key member of the care team, you will operate and maintain complex equipment specific to the cardiac cath lab environment and apply your technical and clinical expertise to deliver patient-centered care. Your responsibilities will draw on your background in radiological and cardiovascular procedures.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate a complete working knowledge of all equipment within the department. Maintains a knowledge of sterile supplies and techniques utilized for procedures in the area of responsibility.
Assists physician with scrub duties utilizing sterile technique to prevent cross-contamination, set-up trays and prepare and position patient.
Assists physician in circulator role by positioning the patient to obtain digital films and by giving medications / contrast (if tech/RN certified) under MD supervision in accordance with departmental policy.
Assists physician in the recorder/monitor role documenting the case, balancing calibration and operating physiologic recorder and calculates and reports patient information from data gathered in the cardiac cath lab.
Reviews patient chart for appropriate information such as indicators which may indicate risk to the patient, maintains the holding area and assists in transporting patients.
Provides radiation protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards.
Maintains controlled drug inventory according to prescribed controlled drug policy. Assures that the crash cart and drug box are accurately supplied and dated. Recognizes emergency situations and can initiate code procedures or administer first aid or CPR as needed.
Prepare and administer contrast media or medications under supervision of the Cardiologist.
Assists in maintaining inventory and ordering supplies.
Actively participates in product evaluation to determine best and most cost effective product.
Notifies coordinator when supplies are low.
Maintains daily work log and participates in the follow-up on patients.
Rotates in an on-call status.
Actively participates in performance improvement process to include evaluating, reporting and follow-up recommendations.

Position Overview
The Medical Laboratory Technologist I is responsible for performing high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures, and complying with all applicable regulatory laboratory requirements. Essential Duties

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I, in their role as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA, are responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting waived and non-waived test results. Under general supervision, each individual performs only those tests that are authorized by the laboratory manager and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual's education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
Essential Functions
* As outlined by CLIA, after successful completion of orientation, training and competency assessment on all instruments/methods applicable to their role:
* Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
* Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
* Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
* Follow the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
* Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical consultant, technical supervisor, clinical consultant or director
* Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

Job Summary
Charles River Labs is seeking a Molecular Technologist for our Microbial Solutions site located Newark, DE.
This position will support our MALDI Lab function with working hours Monday - Friday M-F 10AM-6:30PM .
The Molecular Technologist I will process customer samples in the microbiology laboratory utilizing the various technology platforms including but not limited to bacterial 16S rDNA and fungal ITS2 sequencing, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and ribotyping. Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and GMP compliance.
Roles and Responsibilities
• Conduct accurate processing of customer samples in accordance with current SOPs.
• Receive, unpack, log, and subculture customer samples according to current SOPs.
• Aliquot and prepare reagents.
• Perform test streaks for isolation, PCR, sequencing of customer samples and other laboratory processes including but not limited to mass spectrometry and ribotyping.
• Perform continual maintenance, repair and cleaning of all laboratory equipment.
• Perform pipette verification.
• Operate and maintain laser cutter.
• Provide backup for all laboratory functions when needed.
• Dispose of microbe cultures, chemicals and glass in proper waste containers.
• Collaborate with technical support to resolve discrepancies with customer samples.
• Comply with all aspects of laboratory safety, safety stations, safety manuals, safety SOP, and MSDS sheets.
• Suggest process improvements.
• Perform or support special projects in the lab when needed.

Job Qualifications
Education: Associates Degree in Microbiology or related discipline required. Bachelors Degree preferred.
Experience: 0-2 years related experience in a laboratory setting or academic setting.

Compensation Data

Summary of Job Duties:The MLT Director is responsible for coordinating the delivery of instruction, ensuring the quality of instruction, budgeting, and overall leadership, management, and supervision of the program. The program director is responsible for the operation of the MLT program within the accordance and policies and procedures of all approving bodies and accrediting agencies (NAACLS). The director is a faculty member that will teach in the program as well.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with active plan for Master's Degree within 2 years.
Hold ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC certification.

Two years of teaching/training or in-service experience.

What You Will Do: The Clinical Laboratory Technician is responsible for andrology and endocrinology procedures, maintenance of computer-generated logs and reports related to patient testing and billing, and other lab related duties. The clinical laboratory technician participates in quality assurance and improvement activities on an ongoing basis.
Provide andrology service, including semen analysis, IUI preparation, and cryopreservation to clinical laboratory patients IAW established procedures and protocols.
Draw patient blood samples and collect specimens using proper techniques and safety protocols. Maintain specimen integrity, ensure accurate documentation, and provide professional patient care throughout the collection process.
Provide endocrinology services using the Cobas 411 analyzer and the associated LIS, including sample labeling, data review, and associated computer use.
Process samples according to Lab protocols for testing, transportation, storage, requisition forms, and transmission of electronic data.
Generate billing, charges, and payment information for laboratory services, as required.
Perform billing audits for lab.
Maintain clean/sanitary work environment and follow bloodborne pathogen handling/disposal procedures per OSHA regulations.
Participate in Quality Assurance activities, per laboratory management and quality team.
Maintain HIPAA and Confidentiality for all patient and clinic information, HIV confidentiality, and ensure to protect computer access.
Understand and assess potential domestic violence and child abuse concerns and report to Medical Director or Practice Administrator.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring:
Associate in Laboratory Sciences Required; Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Sciences preferred.
Medical Lab Technician Certificate/ Diploma preferred.
1+ years' experience in specimen processing, Lab administration, and Patient Care preferred.
Andrology (sperm count, motility, and morphology), and/or endocrinology with the Roche analyzer experience preferred.
Experience with laboratory software preferred.
Strong basic math skills, computer skills, procedural discipline, and attention are essential.
