Job Description
HCI is seeking experienced travel medical laboratory technologists/technicians for multiple travel positions in Grand Rapids, MI as well as throughout the state of Michigan. All shifts are available, mostly in hospital lab settings. These travel contracts are initially 9-weeks long with the possibility of extensions.
These are full MT/L generalist roles, must be able to cover all departments. Experience and proficiency with Epic is preferred and a big plus! Travel experience is preferred with a minimum of 3+ years recent experience.

Job Summary:
Discover the presence or absence of disease and provide data that help physicians determine the best treatment for the patient. Specialty areas of laboratory medicine include clinical chemistry, hematology, transfusion services, clinical immunology, clinical microbiology, serology and the emerging field of molecular diagnostics.
Skill Requirements:
Calibrate, operate, troubleshoot and maintain the equipment
Dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required to collect and prepare specimens
Lab safety and infection prevention is of paramount importance
Responsibilities may include but not be limited to:
Performing testing in any and/or all of the following areas of the lab: clinical chemistry, hematology, transfusion services (blood bank), clinical immunology, clinical microbiology, serology, and the emerging field of molecular diagnostics.
Matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking labeling; logging specimens; arranging reports for delivery; Maintaining quality results verify and equipment function, troubleshooting, calibrating equipment and monitoring quality control measures and protocols
Participating in staff training and educational opportunities; Identifying and communicating abnormal patient conditions reports mandated information to the public health department or other designated officials
Contributing to a safe and secure environment, following established standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
Maintaining patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential
Education, Certification, & Experience:
MT/MLS: Bachelor's degree in science and MLS(ASCP) certification or equivalent
MLT: Associates degree in science and MLT(ASCP) certification or equivalent
Three (3) years of experience
Epic experience is preferred

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lab Manager provides day-to-day direction to the Quality laboratory associates by coordinating and directing all aspects of laboratory development, staff training, testing, and ongoing operational support. Under supervision of the RN, serves as an integral member of the health care team by performing clerical and patient care assignments as delegated and permitted by law and regulatory bodies and institutional policies and procedures. This position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned area. This position performs EKG testing according to defined protocol and ensures timely download of EKG machines as appropriate. This position accurately performs patient registration including the gathering and input of demographic and payer information.
Pay Range: $14.75 - $19.62/hour
Employment Type: Limited Hours/VSP, dependent on the needs of the unit
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8-10 hour shifts as needed by the unit (No weekends or holidays)
Requirements: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required or proof of higher education, BLS for the Healthcare Provider by 60 days after hire required
PATIENT CARE
Assists in the delivery of direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and receives written and/or verbal assignments and direction.
Documents patient care activities and patient data accurately using appropriate documentation forms and/or information systems.
Performs required clinical skills including but not limited to: Vital sign measurement; aseptic technique; specimen collection; hot and cold applications; simple respiratory therapy; post mortem care; ostomy care; and, application of orthopedic devices.
Performs patient care tasks related to activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, hair, skin, and oral care.
Completes assigned patient duties within the time-frame established by the Registered Nurse.
Gathers data including but not limited to: Intake; output; vital signs; patient height and weight; and, point-of-care test results.
Assists with admission, transfer, or discharge of patients.
Observes patients carefully for changes and reports in a timely manner.
Performs EKG testing according to defined protocol, ensures timely download of EKG machines and documents on appropriate log sheet.
STANDARDS
Utilizes information while upholding the policies and procedures of Holland Hospital to continuously improve patient care, safety, and practice to enhance outcomes.
Reports patient safety issues utilizing the MOOR occurrence reporting system.
Able to describe the unit based quality improvement activities and implications for practice.
Assists with data collection for quality improvement activities.
Assists with the identification of actual and potential risks to patient safety.
Achieves unit specific initial and ongoing competencies.
Provides close care/1:1 direct observation of patients to maintain patient safety as assigned.
UNIT MAINTENANCE
Supports the operation of the unit by completing assigned tasks.
Performs ongoing supplies inventory. Stocks and cleans patient care areas.
Assists with regulatory checks as delegated.
Maintains a neat, uncluttered environment in patient room and/or treatment area.
CLERICAL, RECEPTION & PATIENT REGISTRATION
Supports patient care and unit operations by completing assigned tasks under supervision of the Registered Nurse.
Performs file, chart, and forms maintenance.
Functions as unit receptionist by promptly, politely, and professionally answering phone and greeting visitors.
Assists with requests and facilitates communication between members of the health care team.
Assists with other clerical/reception duties as assigned. Demonstrates knowledge of computer downtime procedures.
Interviews outpatients for visits to obtain complete and accurate demographic data, accesses various software systems to determine correct payer information and enters the data into the patient's medical record using various hospital information systems.
Verifies that the correct physician, diagnosis and procedures are entered.
Obtains appropriate consents for treatment compliantly.
Answers patient and family questions regarding tests and finance or directs them appropriately.
Obtains Advanced Beneficiary Notification (ABN) signatures as appropriate.
Completes Authorization to Release Medical Information forms compliantly to request or send results to patients or other hospital entities.
