Requires Bachelor's degree in a related science (Certification is not required); Associate Degree in an approved Medical Laboratory Technician Program or a Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) certification from an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration, dependent on when coursework was completed.
Associate degree requires certification (NCA, AMT, ASCP, HEW, and CLA) within 12 months of employment. Failure to achieve would result in downgrade to Lab Assistant II position until certification is achieved or loss of employment, dependent on business need.

Job Role Summary

Essential Duties
Specimen Processing/Testing/Reporting:
The testing personnel are responsible for specimen receipt, processing, test performance and reporting of test results (CLIA, D6068). Everyone performing moderate complexity testing must follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintenance of recorded test results, as authorized by the supervisor (CLIA, D6070). Monitoring test systems for proper test performance, accurate reporting of test results, and must report problems that could adversely affect test performance or result reporting. Be capable of identifying problems that could affect test performance or result reporting and correct and report these problems immediately to the technical consultant, clinical consultant or director of the lab (CLIA, D6074). Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
When needed, fulfills sample accessioning duties of the Laboratory Services Area:
* Specimen handling and processing and maintenance of chain of custody (e.g., receipt and referral logs, test requests/requisitions, communication logs).
* Inspects samples for integrity including sample receipt condition. Follows procedures for sample rejection criteria by completing required documentation. Notifies impacted areas, clients and management, as needed.
* Performs data entry functions to log-in samples into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Purpose:
Under limited supervision, the employee is responsible for performing functions in the analytical laboratory departments. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for preparation, analysis and quantitation of oil test samples and following procedures related to quality control, while maintaining and documenting the maintenance of equipment utilized.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Follows and participates in all company safety requirements, policies, and related documentation
Follows all department/laboratory work instructions, including maintaining current training logs and completed competency evaluations.
Timely and accurately preparation, analysis, and quantitation of test samples
Prepares standard materials and calibrations when applicable
Cleans and maintains glassware, test supplies and equipment as required.
Disposes of hazardous materials
Supports the maintenance, housekeeping, and organization of the laboratory.
Supports laboratory team with shortages, projects, special assignments or as required
Performs other duties as deemed appropriate by management.
Job Requirements:
A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent with some chemistry background highly desirable.
Ability to meet demanding deadlines while maintaining attention to detail while completing multiple tasks.
Must be willing to take on added responsibilities and challenges to grow within the role.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to be able to compile from and present to all levels of Client's organization.
