What you will do:
Following the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient results.
Maintaining records which demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
Adhering to the laboratory's Quality Control policies and documenting all Quality Control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and instrument maintenance.

Job Summary

This is an unpaid Volunteer/Intern position for Active Duty Service members participating in the SkillBridge program prior to completion of military service. Internship is limited to 180 days, however amount of days will be based on unit command approval. Must be available to work 40 hour per week, schedule will be four, 10 hour shifts. Candidates must possess all of the required certs to be considered and must provide their own housing and transportation.
An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) responds to medical emergencies; renders aid to injured parties; operates ambulances and other related medical equipment; participates in station, equipment and apparatus maintenance; attends training classes and drills; diagnoses medical problems and performs first-aid and resuscitator functions; and other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:

* A basic understanding of fire based Emergency Medical Services (EMS) delivery system;

Experience and Training
Experience: Must be a current Active Duty Service Member participating in the Skillbridge program.
License, Certificate:

* A current EMT certification as defined by the State of California Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA); or an EMT National Registry Certification (NREMT).
* A current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
* Possession of San Diego County EMT certification.
* Valid Driver License

Physical strength and agility to lift and carry heavy objects, such as a gurney while transporting patients; lift, pull and operate gurney; climb ladders and stairs; bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl in tight spaces.

Brief Description of Duties
* Teach CLS Students Advanced Medical Microbiology, Transfusion, Blood Banking, Hematology, Molecular Biology, Laboratory Management, or Clinical Chemistry and includes 12 separate lectures with associated assignments and exams.

Required Qualifications
* CLS Generalist License or CLS Limited License or MLS Certification or MD.
* Master's Degree or PhD or three years of teaching experience.

* 3 years of full-time work experience in a clinical laboratory that is directly relevant to the CLS profession.

Salary range placement is determined by qualifications and experience. Commensurate with experience within ranks established by the CSU Salary Schedule for Special Sessions or at the Director's discretion.
The rates shown below by range are the anticipated salary from the applicable Faculty Salary Schedule - 2322 to be paid per WTU in Special Session programs (a typical course is 3 WTUs). As the salary schedule indicates, compensation may be reduced if enrollment targets are not met.

In This Role:
You will be using automated analyzers, microscopes and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.

What Do You Need to Succeed?
You possess a High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A 2-, 3- or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
It is not required to work in our lab, but if you were a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT), this experience and education would be a plus.
Ideally, you will have experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and/or clinical diagnostic analyzers).

Job Description

Responsibilities
Under the direction of Technical and General Supervisors, perform laboratory procedures across a broad range of assays and in accordance with standards established in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
Process specimens, conduct testing, and report test results with constant attention to detail and excellence in quality.
Operate laboratory instruments and equipment. Trouble shoot and problem solve with laboratory instrumentation and assay systems as needed. Monitor and perform preventative maintenance as required for machine performance.
Keep meticulous and organized records of specimens, tests, instrument logs, and technical analyses.
Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify supervisors.
Conduct and document appropriate quality control and assurance procedures. Assist with quality assurance and performance improvement activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Coordinate faculty requests and perform a variety of technical duties in the preparation and setup of experiments and demonstrations conducted in assigned laboratories; independently prepare chemical solutions, bacteriological materials, cultures, plants, animals, specimens and other scientific items for use in laboratory experiments; assure that laboratories are cleaned after usage.
* Assist with simulations, tests, quizzes to students as provided by instructors in classroom or laboratory environments.
* Set up and provide technical and other assistance to student with special projects, field research trips, and classroom/laboratory presentations; may demonstrate or assist to demonstrate complicated or hazardous procedures.
