Position Summary: Pathology Technicians/Lab Assistants at our hospital laboratory sites are responsible for providing a wide variety of technical and administrative support including specimen accessioning, scheduling and performing procedures, resolving discrepancies, as well as providing general procedural support to pathologists and hospital staff and physicians. The goal of the Harrison Lab is to understand how immune cells promote barrier tissue integrity and repair, and to understand how this goes awry during disease. This work-study position is for up to 19 hours each week. Responsibilities The individual in this position will be involved in projects exploring the immune response to commensal and pathogenic bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. The techniques likely to be used include DNA isolation, PCR and gel electrophoresis to conduct genotyping, basic flow cytometry of circulating blood immune cell populations, tissue sectioning, immunofluorescence staining and microscopy. They will also be responsible for general laboratory duties including preparation of stock solutions, lab stocking and maintenance.
