The Metallurgy Clerk supports the metallurgical and materials engineering team by performing administrative, data-entry, document control, and test-report coordination tasks related to metal materials used in aerospace components. This individual: 1) functions as the department Section Supervisor or Lead, responsible for supervising the daily operation of the section(s), 2) provides consultative services to the medical staff in the capacity of Technical Consultant, 3) oversees the section/department performance improvement program and participates in hospital interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives, 4) is responsible for the technical and fiscal management of the section(s), 5) oversees the section(s) quality management/assurance program, 6) ensures compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements, 7) assesses staff competency and completes performance evaluations in a timely manner, 8) ensures the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting, 9) develops, maintains and updates section policy and procedure manuals, 10) reviews quality control performance ensuring documentation of corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications, 11) identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct the problem or immediately notify the, Director, or Medical Director, 12) performs a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and any other discipline as introduced into the laboratory, 13) ensures the performance and documentation of equipment maintenance - daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed, 14) recognizes age specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics, 15) ensures that the testing of proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and that collaboration with other laboratories is prohibited prior to the reporting of proficiency testing results to the appropriate agencies, 16) ensures the currency of all laboratory policies and procedures, 17) adheres to all department and hospital policies and procedures related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources, 18) may be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC. 19) other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director. Qualifications EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING ASCP certification, or equivalent, required Requires two years of clinical laboratory work experience that cover all areas of a clinical laboratory. Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in CLIA Current and Valid State License if the laboratory is located in a state where required. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled licensed CLS to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in running Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and knowledge of molecular biology techniques. Essential Responsibilities: Ensure that the equipment is calibrated, maintained, and operated according to the manufacturer's guidelines and standard operating procedures. Adheres to the CAP, CLIA and NYS regulations. Run protocols for sample collection, processing, storage, and tracking in LIMs to ensure the integrity and traceability of the samples throughout the NGS workflow. Run clinical and R&D samples for NGS and molecular biology techniques, including microdissection, FFPE nucleic acid extraction, NGS library preparation, sequencing, data analysis, and quality control measures with appropriate NGS controls. Perform and train other CLS's on established NGS and molecular biology procedures, including macrodissection, FFPE nucleic acid extraction, NGS library preparation, sequencing, and data analysis, including quality control measures. Perform validation testing to ensure with selected reagents and controls to ensure the assay meets the required performance specifications. Perform validation studies to assess the performance characteristics of the NGS assay, including sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, precision, and reproducibility. Analyze and interpret data using appropriate statistical methods and software, including sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, precision and reproducibility. Maintain accurate records and documentation of experiments and results. Requirements Minimum 4 years as a certified or licensed clinical laboratory scientist California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Highly Preferred: California Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist license - CGMBS.) Must be well-organized, open-minded, decisive, and flexible. They must be able to communicate well with others, and work as a team. Good writing skills and and extensive computer experience are necessary Experience with Macrodissection, RNA extraction and downstream analysis Strong experience in development of targeted library, conducting sequencing NGS library preparation, sequencing, and data analysis Experience in project management and organization Excellent record-keeping and documentation skills Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment Validation and SOP writing experience a plus Must have superior work ethic, driven and be results oriented Comfortable in a fast-paced environment Excellent oral and written communication skills Preferred Bachelor's or Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field Anatomic or Clinical Pathology experience Prior experience with NextGen sequencing instruments. Minimum of 4 years of molecular and histology experience within an anatomic pathology laboratory or clinical laboratory.
