Medical Technologist's work as part of the healthcare team to provide our patients with the best possible care. Staff work together with each other, patient providers and our Pathologists to help determine clinical outcomes for our patients. Our technical departments are state of the art with up to date instrumentation including, molecular microbiology, Rotem coagulation technology, a full chemistry line with refrigeration and up to date, histology and cytology departments.

The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist V independently performs various diagnostic laboratory tests in the Clinical Laboratory to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. They use their knowledge and skill set to oversee laboratory functions, including quality control, maintenance, training, and other required tasks.
This is a 40-hour per week, benefitted, day-shift position. This position requires working rotating weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities
Demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform a variety of laboratory tests in a timely manner yielding accurate and precise results with a low error rate. Assists Medical director and Lab manager / supervisor in test selection and implementation.
Ability to appropriately troubleshoot and take remedial actions to resolve issues and problems independently. Ensures that patient results are not reported until systems are functioning properly. Clearly communicates resolutions or next steps to section/lab leadership and the team.
Possesses advanced knowledge, skills and theory to perform job duties in the clinical laboratory. Establishes or verifies test performance specifications. Is able to assist others in learning techniques and theory. Develops training and teaching programs for area(s) of oversight.
Has primary oversight and evaluation responsibility for quality control and instrument function checks using established quality control practices to assess the functioning of the test system(s). Identifies when a QC problem exists and is able to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner. Is able to establish a quality control program, execute this plan within regulatory requirements and monitor test performance. Can clearly communicate the steps taken to correct issues and help others understand the process.
Operates and maintains laboratory equipment according to established laboratory procedures and/or manufacturers recommendations, including maintaining supplies. Identifies when sample, instrument, and/or procedural problems exists and takes appropriate actions to remedy the issue, prevent reoccurrence, and investigate replacement solutions or methods when necessary.
Is able to appropriately troubleshoot problems and communicate resolutions or next steps.
Orients and trains new laboratory staff. Trains bench personnel when new procedures or systems are put into routine use. Trains MLS or MLT/CLT students in bench procedures, basic theory, and advanced skills. Develops teaching and training tools and identifies training needs for new students and employees as well as existing team members. Develops competency tools and assesses competency of the lab staff for waived, moderate and high complexity testing.
Actively participates in the D-HH member's laboratory's continuing education program.
Demonstrates knowledge of and acts in accordance with all hospital safety requirements

Qualifications
Bachelors of Science Degree or the equivalent in education & Clinical Laboratory experience.
3-5 years of clinical lab experience required

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
A high school diploma or GED is required. A Laboratory Technician should be willing to attend technical training classes to enhance skills or correct identified deficiencies. There is no minimal related work experience required.

Must have the ability and skill to perform the detailed job requirements noted above competently, safely and proficiently. Self-starting motivated person who possesses good interpersonal skills and who is able to effectively interact with all departments with the Company. Essential Responsibilities
Specimen Preparation
Process tissue specimens using standard histology techniques, including grossing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E, special stains, and immunohistochemistry) according to established laboratory protocols and quality standards.
Ensure proper specimen identification, labeling, and documentation throughout all stages of preparation.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Follow all laboratory quality control and quality assurance procedures to maintain accuracy, consistency, and regulatory compliance.
Participate in QC documentation, proficiency testing, and ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
Operate, clean, and maintain histology instruments and equipment, ensuring they remain in proper working condition.
Monitor performance, troubleshoot basic issues, and promptly report malfunctions or quality concerns to management.
Workflow & Process Improvement
Identify, communicate, and assist in resolving technical or workflow challenges to support an efficient and productive laboratory environment.
Contribute ideas for improving turnaround times, reducing errors, and optimizing processes.
Chemical & Biosafety
Handle and dispose of chemicals, reagents, and hazardous materials in accordance with regulatory and safety requirements.
Follow all biosafety, OSHA, CLIA and local state standards.
Operational Support
Assist with additional laboratory tasks, including slide organization, inventory management, documentation, administrative and general workflow support.
Collaborate with colleagues and support cross-training efforts as needed.

Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information, laboratory data, and proprietary systems in accordance with HIPAA and company policies.
Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication with laboratory staff and providers.

Additional Duties

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Associate or bachelor's degree in chemical or biological science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
Alternatively, completion of 60 semester hours (or equivalent), including:
24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, or
24 semester hours in science including at least 6 hours in chemistry, 6 hours in biology, and 12 additional hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology.
Minimum of one year of experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory preferred.
Proficiency with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
