Hourly Rate: $21.61 This position is an on-campus, part-time, up-to 19-hour appointment based in Champaign, Illinois. is filled. The Lab Assistant is responsible for providing support to the FST instructor by preparing demonstrations, organizing supplies/equipment, observing, assisting students with lab practices, and testing.
The Lab Assistant is a part-time, 19-hour-per-week appointment on a schedule established by the FST Program Director. The position involves handling confidential information and records. The Lab Assistant must be able to work independently and effectively prioritize tasks.

Essential Job Functions:
* Maintain computer lab environment.
* Prepare laboratory environments for instruction by assembling necessary resources.
* Assist instructors, answer questions, and direct students to resources.
* Disassemble and store equipment; operate audio-visual equipment.
* Notify the FST Program Director or Clinical Coordinator of equipment repair, maintenance, and replacement needs.
* Coordinate with other campus departments to troubleshoot problems.
* Manage the FST labs in compliance with college safety policies.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
* Previous experience of at least 1-year as a volunteer firefighter or a Full-time firefighter currently with a department agency or similar environment.
* Must be a Firefighter and cannot be on probationary period.
* Prospective new hires will successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting. The background check review includes, but is not limited to, exclusionary offenses per the Illinois School Code and Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
* Verbal and mathematical abilities sufficient to organize the efficient use of the laboratory, operation of computers and software, and effective communication.
* Ability to learn the computer laboratory resources and new programs and equipment as technology changes.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Office 365, including Teams and Outlook, and the ability to learn the Parkland systems and adapt to new programs as technologies are implemented.
* Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds with no assistance.
* In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. The MLS Lead oversees the automated testing system of the Chemistry Section of the Core Reference Laboratory. The MLS Lead provides advanced technical expertise, workflow oversight, and operational leadership to enhance performance and optimization. Leadership & Workflow Coordination
* Participate in interviewing, hiring, and performance evaluation processes as requested.

Quality Control & Quality Assurance
* Ensure processes comply with CAP, CLIA, and organizational standards.
* Review QC, proficiency testing results, and quality dashboards; initiate corrective action as needed.
* Oversee section QA activities, including documentation, maintenance logs, and quality indicators.
* Maintain inspection readiness by enforcing regulatory standards and participating in audits, corrective actions, improvement plans, and CAP inspections.
Training & Education
* Develop and maintain training and competency documentation for all tests performed.
* Train new employees, students, and rotating staff on chemistry instrumentation, workflows, and procedures.
* Develop and maintain training materials, competency assessments, and procedure documentation.

Communication & Collaboration

Computer & LIS Skills
* Maintain proficiency with email, Word (procedure editing), Excel (data analysis), and procedure management.
* Ensure validation of computer interfaces and support CAP-mandated documentation and testing, escalate when appropriate.
* Utilize LIS functions for QC review, troubleshooting, sample tracking, and workflow monitoring.
* Validate LIS rules, middleware connections, and instrument interfaces.
* Participate in system upgrades, validation testing, and configuration changes.
Administrative & Financial Responsibilities
* Monitor section expenses and contribute to cost-containment strategies; escalate when appropriate.
* Develop and manage division SOPs.
* Approve overtime when delegated and support scheduling needs.
* Assist leadership in performance evaluations and other administrative tasks.
* Oversee and escalate when appropriate adequate inventory, track and order reagents, service contracts, calibrators, supplies, and consumables.
What you'll need:
* Accredited bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science OR equivalent education/experience AND
* Medical Laboratory Science certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent, or certification with a specialty organization appropriate to the laboratory division AND
* Three (3) years of professional experience including one (1) year as a Medical Laboratory Scientist 2 or equivalent.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
Desired qualifications:
* Experience with Total Laboratory Automation platforms and high-volume core labs.
* Experience with Clinical Chemistry automation.

The Lab Technician performs microbial and chemical analysis of milk, raw cream, condensed skim and ice cream; other testing to include milk components, sensory evaluation, antibiotics, added water, sediments and drinking water. Here's a day in the life:
* May perform the following testing using wet chemistry or rapid analysis equipment depending upon the daily schedule: Microbial and chemical analysis of milk or ice cream.

* Assists with descriptive sensory analysis, statistical analysis and writes technical briefs.

Who we're looking for: The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 1 with the Microbiology Team at the University of Washington Medical Center - Montlake.
CLT 1s are the critical first line in the Microbiology lab. They accession and process all the specimens, answer phone calls, keep track of pending monitors, and review orders in the Laboratory Information System and Electronic Health Record.
Work schedule:
* 100% FTE
* Monday - Friday with rotating weekends and holidays
* Evening shift
What you'll contribute:
* Accession test requests, track specimens, and look up results in the Laboratory Information System.
* Batch and un-batch specimens from other divisions and transport them appropriately.
* Operate the WASP to process approved specimens, perform daily and monthly maintenance and troubleshoot errors.
* Process bacterial and fungal cultures for all specimen types.
* Prepare and stain direct smears, including but not limited to, Gram stains, KOH preps, Trichromes, malaria preps.
* Answer phone calls and direct questions to appropriate personnel.
* Interact with health care providers and respond to questions concerning specimens in a professional manner.
* Trouble shoot specimens issues and enter cases in hc1.
* Follow procedures and know where to find information in Media Lab.
* Collect and clean glassware, collect and dispose biological waste, and unpack supplies and reagents.
* Must have working knowledge of the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, such as biological safety cabinet, centrifuge, cytocentrifuge, stomacher, fume hood, incubators, dry baths, refrigerators and freezers.
* Performs setup for bacterial susceptibility testing, including disk diffusion, gradient strips, and microtiter panels.
* Communicate with co-workers so that the specimen processing flows smoothly over breaks and between shifts.
* Be helpful, courteous and respectful manner with co-workers.
* Keep the work area clean, organized and stocked.
What you'll need:
* High school graduation or equivalent AND one (1) year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience.
OR
* Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
